Stay away from BFG Commercial T/A Tires

In years past and sometimes recently these tires were recommended.
I now believe that's bad advice!
I ended up with 4 eventually. My 2411 BFG Commercial T/A Tire was recalled two years ago (Aug 2012).
My two 0909 BFG Commercial T/A 235/85R16 tires failed within a month of each other in Nov 2012 with one having a non catastrophic sidewall delamination (Tire held) air, and its mate blowing its tread completely in Dec 2012 (one hour after checking tire pressure). Filed a claim with BFG, not their fault...
BTW, I always check air pressure when departing.

My remaining/last 3209 BFG Commercial T/A tire failed this week (total tread delamination). I was going to replace it in August, but it beat me to the punch. It was fully aired up 2 hours before failing.
Wow, 3 tire failures (two premature, one at almost 5 years) and one Recall - "Mothers, don't let your children do what I have done..." 🙂

I sure hope the replacement Michelin LTX MS 2 tires hold up better and last more than 3-4 years...

Not worth much. The OP is talking about LT tire use on a trailer. Trailer service is much more sever than truck service. I love my TransForce tires on my TV, but I would never use them on the trailer. I think that the results would be very different between the two applications.

If B.O. is referring to his Ram with Cummins I believe it would come with LT tires. I have the TransForce HT on my 2013 2500 D/A truck. 18,000 miles but I don't think they will go beyond 45,000 miles. Had BFG Commercial T/A's as replacements for my OEM 2006 but I don't think they would have gone beyond 50,000 miles.

You will need to be cautious about the Michelins M/S-2 tires as well. There is a current recall for certain date of manufacture on these tires for the same type of sidewall delamination and tread separation. Google Michelin recall for the actual info. I have a 2012 2500HD and have had a problem with the Michelin A/T tires that came on the truck. Three of four tires replaced at 4500 miles because they were out of spec according to Michelin's data. Now at 32000 miles and regular rotations and balance, I'm back to the same problem. The dealer is telling me they don't think Michelin will do anything to help despite the truck is still in warranty and these are "Supposed" to be a 60,00 mile tire. GOOD LUCK

Many have put these Transforce by Firestone tires on their trailers. I am considering these as well. Can you please explain why not?

Thanks

Because he believes ST tires are better for trailers! Chris

Not sure 16" BF goodriches are rated for 8K axles. If I remember correctly, the max load on a 16" LT tire is usually around 3100 lbs? Depends on the other dimensions too.

Our auto shop at work has over 600 vehicles and BFG gave them 160 comm ta tires to try out. They had too many tread delam and other problems so they won't ever use them again. Craig

See my post "Tire Failure-Update III" Same issues as you. There are several other posts here recently on similar failures. Did BFG ask you what you were running them on. That was an early question in my discussion and I was told that a trailer was a misapplication and not warranted.

Check reviews on the Michelins. They seem to have some issues with some people.

We have B F Goodrich ST230's on our Class A and have put 60,000 miles on them with no problems. Was there a recall for the T/A's? http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/voluntary-safety-recall.page

So what is the GAWR listed on the placard? What is listed as OEM tires?
