do a couple weekend trips close to home. or your first trip close to walmart. you will quickly figure out what you need. we have never stocked a trailer from nothing. started with what hubby's parents had in their popup when we took it over about 15 years ago (I still use the clothes line, clothes pins, flatware from that supply) and we have upgraded and added as we need. on the inside stuff that is always in the traier:
table covers for outdoor picnic table, one for the table and 1 to cut in half for the damp benches.
lighter
plates/cups/flatware - regular and disposable
mugs for coffee/hot chocolate/tea
utensils for food prep - wooden spoon, tongs, spatula, knife, measuring cups and spoons
sheets, blankets, sleeping bags (depending which you prefer), pillows
throw blanket if you are curled up with a book and cold
the easiest for food and kitchen supplies probably would be, plan a menu, then think about every thing you need to make and eat that menu. can a pot double as a mixing bowl or do you need a separate mixing bowl? if you make pasta, how are you going to drain off the water?
as you go through you routine of getting showered and dressed, take note of everything you use, do you need each of those things in the trailer?
what are you going to do during the day? will you be hiking? biking? site-seeing. what do you need to complete those activities. extra backpack? extra cooler? what other gear?
ask your parents what they had in there that they used all the time. but also ask them what they never used. every year we end up taking out something that hasn't been used in "years".
