I always figure competition in the market is a good thing. Maybe they will give Polaris a run for for their money with this.

As for belts, and being a former Polaris owner - after my 1st experience with one breaking out on the trail I never rode again without a spare and tools to replace it. Polaris Lifetime Belt Warranty? Bahahahahahahah

Don't take this the wrong way but it sounds like someone needs to use low range more. I have a canam 1000 and in 3 years never even smoked the belt, I have however just recently snapped a rear axle shaft.

You have just been lucky then. We just had a Pismo beach trip cut short by tossing a belt. Not the first time either!

Help at least one person a weekend trip fix or replace their belt.

Supposedly not a rush to market at all. Rumor has it Yamaha has been designing and testing this YXZ for ~5 years before releasing it. With the "manual" shift, Yamaha is addressing a part of the market that didn't previously exist and believe it will be a huge success. Even the Polaris and Can Am forums are all over this YXZ with high response of many who are ready to jump ship. Of course those are the vocal ones and expectations are that many Rzr owners are very happy with current Polaris offerings.

That doesn't even address the more efficient power to the ground without a CVT, ~20% more power to the ground with the manual shift. Puts it close up there with the turbo SxS offerings when comparing wheel HP. Now, throw a turbo on the YXZ...

Whatever your views are... it's good to see different offerings from different manufacturers as the consumer ends up with a lot better options.

Manual trans is to differentiate from the rest of the market. Yamaha already knows how to build a CVT. Been doing it for years...

Yes, welcome to the game Yamaha. This thing would be fun.

Also, there is already a turbo kit to be available by the end of the month... so anyone thinking the current HP is not enough, go big or go home: YXZ 155HP TurboCharger Kit Complete

As per the Jeeps... everyone knows those will end up costing way more in the long run once you are done modding it. Then, there is the replacement parts. I didn't see a single Jeep on trail not modded to the kilt in Moab last April. Some were in excess of $100k.

My Jeep is a lot of fun and of course street legal, which is very handy in the Sierras. My RZR reminds me of an old CJ3A I owned. Soft top and no windshield or doors. What a blast to drive with amazing off road capabilities.

When I shop a new SxS, I'll definitely test drive the YXR. Welcome back Yamaha.

If you like the Raptor look, then I guess it may look "pretty good". Personally, I think it is ugly and will follow the usual Yamaha progression, 10 years before it gets any type of update. Price wise, a Jeep would be a better investment and take you more places, plus has 4 seats.

My Raptor is kicka**!! Love the look. My Jeep is awesome, but these guys have everyone by the nads in terms of transport, compact etc...my jeep would be way too much work with putting skinnys on it and hope it fits in my TH, not to mention weight, safety etc...this is what I mean by the sxs industry having us all by the nads...

I agree a jeep would be wayyyyy more cost effective but these SXS are better suited. The low weight and low height give them an advantage being transported. The performance on most terrain is better (not rock crawling) suited to their suspension and low center of gravity.

The problem is production numbers, these things should cost way less than a Honda Fit or low end KIA but they just don't have the economies of scale to get the costs down.

My hope is with more competition it will bring the price of these things down. IMHO out of control for what your getting. Would love to shift at times but also love an auto mode for cruising around. Will take a hard look at upgrading when they offer a dual mode trans.

Probably not one in my future but I am glad Yamaha is stepping up to the plate, The 5 speed trans looks like a great addition and should give it a performance and reliability edge....I am not a Yamaha fanboy but I do think their products are among the most reliable, better than/equal to Honda and KTM.

Yes, I saw the width and do know of the rules/laws. Currently in New England there are only a few trail systems that would be allowed on, leaving the RZR 570/800 still the most popular around here. Our gates are 60", keeps jeeps and full size 4x4s off the trails.
