Think I will keep mine a little longer

Been shopping fifth wheels for some time now and I'm wore out! I can't really find what I want at the price I want to pay.

I was in mine tonight getting ready to head out tomorrow for the weekend and said to myself..... there's nothing wrong with the one I have! I do like the new features that come on the new ones, many changes since 2006. Think I'll wait till winter to start my search again.

We cleaned up our 2005 to sell it and started looking at newer units. Could not find anything that we wanted at those prices.

Then we remembered all the junk that had to be fixed on our unit when it was new and the sub par tires. Newer ain't always better. We decided to keep our trailer and just do some remodeling.

Same here. Keeping what we have. Owned our trailer ten years now. Last summer got free tickets to go to an RV show. Went and checked out the units. Didn't see anything we liked over what we have. Of course with my 6 foot 3 inch height it knocked out 75% of them anyway.

Over the years we went from backpack with tube tent, large tent, popup tent trailer, hybrid trailer and now to a 5th wheel.

Each upgrade involved completely changing our style of camping rather than just get some new amenities. If we upgrade again it would once more be due to changing styles such as going from part time to full time where a different 5th or perhaps a motor home is needed. For now we'll keep our 5'er for quite some time.

Look for a "bad year" for the RV Industry. We bought our 2009 Open Range in 2010. It listed around $60,000. We bought it for $36,000. Did a search for our year and model this past spring and found 3 of them for sale, used, around the country. Lowest price was $35,999.

We figure we'll be camping with our 2003 fifth wheel until we die. Not even tempted to look at new models. We looked for three years before finding the perfect one for us. At 25' it has everything we need and it goes everywhere we want to take it.

Perfectly set up for drycamping. Our last visit to a commercial campground was in 2010 when our dog became sick on a trip and we needed to visit the big city to stay near a veterinary hospital for a few days.

I suppose we'll be old grey hairs towing a classic collectible fifth wheel when we're 80 years old.

Save your money. Wait until the economy has another bad year. Then you can get what you want for the money you want.

I have a small 05 that is light enough to pull with our 1/2 ton truck. Its paid for, and is absolutely perfect for what we want. I want a new one because I have made all the modifications I can, and I'm bored. DW says NO! NO! NO!
Oh well.

We have been very happy with our Montana bought new in July '07, so few problems I have really been amazed. But now considering a new one. Mainly for the auto leveling and larger shower. And for end of year models the prices are pretty tempting.

Since I purchased my current RV in 2005 I have been going to the RV show every year to see all the new stuff. I never could find anything "better" to replace what I have. This year, only because I want diesel so I can tow the boat or a larger car, I will make the trade...but I really prefer the floor plan in my current RV.

I traded an 06 for my 2014 but went from 1 slide to 3 plus 2 feet longer. The feature list was amazingly long as far as upgrades from the 06 and all of them have "mattered" to us ie autolevellers, bigger shower/bath, dual pane windows bigger quieter ac, kitchen island, bigger fridge, 16 inch e tires/wheels, 50 amp, power awning, fireplace, theater recliners across from tv - and on the list goes. The difference was really staggering and still fell within my TV specs. Sometimes it IS worth it. I'm actually amazed I only paid 10g more than my 06 bought new considering the amazing differences we always enjoy when out rving.

Agree with all...5er in my sig is paid for, I've upgraded the suspension...also have a washer/dryer combo and the HD Sat. on the roof...Unit looks almost as good as it did the day I purchased it brand new in 07'....Solid as a rock, no issues with slides, (4 of them) and the interior looks very good...(of course a lot depends on how well one has taken care of their rv and I'm "OCD" when it comes to taking care of the interior and exterior of my 5er....

yeah, I'll be keeping mine...really don't give a flip about a "10 yr. old rule"...wouldn't frequent one of those camp grounds anyway, even if unit was brand new.....Those types of camp grounds are Elitist and Egotist....they can have them...

I am looking for a older 5er to start with three to five years old. Keep your old unit and fix it up. Agree with all the above.

I can't hardly afford to pull what I have. only good thing is she's paid for too. food took a big jump last week and gas has stayed the same for a while. something is about to happen, been to darn quiet on the gas front. a few months ago, the national news said the gas was coming down in price. not here. they raided it 25 cents within a week.
