When Michelin recalled the Uniroyal HD-H and BFG Commercials last years they offered the LTX MS2 as replacement tires for customers with them on their trailers.

Those folks that have them on their trailers seem to like them. Make sure the LT E have enough capacity for your trailers axle capacities.

Good info. I had forgotten about that...

Michelin, was using everything in their stable to cover the problem with the Commercial TA!!!! They even bought Bridgestone Duravis R250's for some users here!!! I had a friend loose a TA that was outside the recall SN range this spring with a lot of trailer damage(which BFG/Michelin paid for similar to GY). Simple fact is that poly carcass LT tires on trailers do fail!! One does not have to look far to find the issues with the TA's twin the Uniroyal Laredo HD/H!

If you want to have the greatest chance of not having tire issues, then the Michelin XPS Rib and Bridgestone Duravis R250 or M895 are the best bets hands down.

NO ONE has ever posted a problem with one of these despite how hard some have looked!!!! One would be hard pressed to ever wear them out. 6-8 years of service is not a problem. I sold 4 Ribs after 6.5 years and 40k+ miles for 200 bucks. What is it that people to do not understand about this investment in quality tires???? Name another tire that will last that long and still have street value??? Instead of paying a disposal fee, you get money back!!!

Again, will a LTX M&S2 work on a trailer? Yes! Is it the best choice for the money? No! Is it the best choice for the trailers running gear? NO! To much grip to pavement in tight maneuvers because of open outer rib and siping. The R250 is in the same price range and has a better tread pattern and steel ply carcass. If one somehow thinks they need a little more aggressive thread, then look at the Duravis M895.

This has all been covered many times!

I realize you may not be a tire dealer/expert, but my 5er came with MS/LT type Tacoma tires as OEM and have lasted very well and are almost 10 years old. No blow outs, tread separation, side wall cracking or uneven wear. Oh and before someones says I should replace then this instant they will get replaced in the next 2 months. Thanks for your opinion. Nice write up FE....I had the Michelin XPS RIBS on a 5er that had a GVW of 14,000#, loaded to a little over 13,000# and a Pin weight of 2500#....Those tires were on that Coachman Somerset three slide 5er longer than "I" would have kept them on there and I towed all through the mountains of NC,SC,TN,Va and WV for a couple of years...a very good friend of mine bought the 5er when I got he one in my sig. He towed out west and put a PILE of miles on those RIBS and had them for over 6 yrs when "I" recommended he should get some new ones..he did and purchased four more Ribs...experience speaks volumes...

I would highly recommend an XPS RIB, or the tire that Me Again mentioned. I recommend the right tire be used in the right application and for the OP's 5r, the "E" rated RIBs along with several others would work great for him.

To the OP, I too wouldn't recommend using the Michelin LTX M&S tire either.

I suspect your trailer has 5200# GAWRs.

Here is what one of their major retailers has to say about your tires.

"The LTX M/S2 is Michelinโ€™s Highway All-Season light truck tire developed to combine long tread life with all-season capabilities for vans, pickups and sport utility vehicles, as well as for commercial vans, shuttles and chassis cab vehicles using light truck tire sizes. The LTX M/S2 is designed to combine a smooth, quiet ride with year-round traction in dry, wet and wintry conditions, including in light snow. Compared to the original LTX M/S, the LTX M/S2 is an evolution in looksโ€ฆand a leap forward in performance.

The LTX M/S2 molds a long wearing, silica-enhanced, all-season compound into a tread profile featuring Michelinโ€™s MaxTouch Construction to produce a contact patch that promotes reliable traction and long wear by evenly distributing acceleration, braking and cornering forces. A symmetric tread design of stable independent tread blocks featuring high-density 3-D Active Sipes delivers all-season traction on dry roads and in inclement weather. Four wide circumferential channels, multiple lateral grooves and open shoulder slots promote lateral water evacuation to enhance wet traction and stopping performance.

The tireโ€™s internal structure includes twin steel belts (three steel belts in Load Range D and Load Range E sizes) to provide the strength and durability needed to handle heavy loads.

NOTE: The LTX M/S2 Highway All-Season tire is NOT a dedicated winter / snow tire. It does NOT meet the severe snow traction requirements and is NOT branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol."

Ya, M&S (mud and snow) are usually not a good choice for trailers

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

The LTX M&S 2 also has to much siping and open shoulder ribs to be consider a good trailer tire. You can get Bridgestone Duravis R250's for about the same price and have a steel ply carcass commercial grade tire similar to the XPS RIB. Chris

Wow. You got a lot of use out of your China made tires - 6 years? You didn't mention any problems so i can only assume you didn't.
