Do non-Leaking Valve Extenders Exist

I have had two different brands of extenders put on the rig (one each last time the tires were changed) and they have both leaked. I call the service center and they just say "some of them leak a bit, just keep the tire aired up". No duh! Wishing I didn't have to use the new extenders quite so often....

Thanks, Jim

Braided extensions are wonderful. 14 years, 126000 miles and 4 sets of tires and never a problem. However, I am the only one that installs them when the tires are being changed. I make sure that they do not rub on the wheel holes , that they are tight and that they are securely fasetned to the the outer wheel / wheel liner.

If you have quality braided extensions there is one trick most people do not know about. Tighten the extensions on to the valve stem and then put a clockwise load in to the extension as you mount it on the bracket. This rotational load keeps the extension from loosening up on the stem and removes the possibility of a leak at that joint.

Dually valve! Recommended by many. Search this site. I have them and they make life simple. Thanks.

"Dually stems"? They're actually longer stems installed in the wheel they stick through the second wheel and have a lug hoop anchor on them?

I may try the locktite approach. Thanks.

I agree 100% - Forget extensions and get the Dually stems, they work and do not leak! Only drawback is cost.

You don't need to spend $120.00 for valve stems. Any good truck tire shop will have the long valve stems or solid extensions for about $15.00 per wheel. The braided ones will work but they aren't recommended if you use a tire pressure monitoring system. with braided extensions the sensors will move around and eventually fail.

Since I have braided stems and a TPMS and have used them continuously for the past seven years with no problems, I would have to say your statement is a myth.....I have heard of no failures of the TPMS due to braided stems....I use rubber stems on my toad and have had no problems with them either....the 502 system no longer suggests metal stems....Dennis

I'm with Sully...it's how they're installed. We've used them for over 10 years with no leakage....same with the TPMS...tighten em right and they won't leak....Dennis

Its NOT the braided extensions....its HOW they are installed.

Ive had 3 class A's...all 3 had Dicor braided extensions and never had a leak that wasnt caused by incorrect valve cores when I had tires changed. New cores cured that problem.

I have owned 3 motor homes that all had the Wheelmasters Braided extenders and have never had an issue. As a couple of others have said, I do tighten them down a little more with a small wrench. Its also important they are mounted properly at the hub so they don't flop around.

X-2, On tighten then down a little! I don't know what brand I have? I'm on my second set on this coach with no problems. I buy a new set every time I buy new tires.

3 RV's with valve extenders and none leaked. Tighten a little more than finger tight. Make sure they are installed so they don't flop around when on the road. Using non-flexible stems to match your needs helps. Using flow through caps makes it easy checking and adding air, even on the inside duals.

The flow through was recommended to me recently because they provide a seal that serves as a second seal which I feel is needed. A question on flow through extenders, is a valve cap recommended to protect the extender from the elements? Leaving it off provides convenience but safety comes first.

Dicor braided stainless steel extenders and no leaks in the past three years. I did snug them a bit more with a small wrench when installed.
