12 years? Not a Goodyear problem. You're very lucky.

I just wanted to share some information about my recent tire blow out. these tires were the original tires on our 'O6 Hurricane. The DOT date on the tire was 3305 meaning they were manufactured in the 33 week of '05. I never had a problem with any of the tires until this blow out in September of 2017. These tires lasted 12 years. I do store the motorhome out doors but since we purchased it in 2010, We've kept tire covers on while in storage. There were about 27,000 miles on these tires.
Looking closely at this tire after the blow out, I think I can actually see what happened and why the tire gave way (other than its age). I believe that throughout their life, I did run them under-inflated too much, Wearing the outsides of the tires.
Notice in this first picture that you can still see siping on one side of the tire (top side in the picture):
The second picture shows the other side of the tire where not only is there no siping but there are actually stress cracks in the tire from being under-inflated:
The third picture shows where I think the blow out began. The tear looks to have started at the stress cracks?
After a little research, I decided to replace all 6 tires with 6 more Goodyear G670's even though they are expensive. I chose these tires for 3 reasons. 1) they have an additive that makes the tire last longer than a regular tire specifically for an RV application where it gets stored most of the time. 2) Most other tires of this size are truck tires and are designed for a higher air pressure (110 PSI) making the ride rougher. 3) They are made in America.
I was able to get the 6 tires from simpletire.com for just under $2700 shipped. Warning: most tire shops can't balance these tires.

Mark52,
What position was the tire that blew? How fast were you driving and what was your experience?
Hopefully no damage to your RV.
MM.
