Hit a tree in the rv park

Well it was a great weekend camping at jetty park at Cape Canaveral. But I had a oops moment as soon as a i got there. I have been back my rvs up for many years now and consider my self a simi pro at it. So I pull to the sit the " holds a 39foot rv" I do what i have been doing for many years I back up get the rear tires on the slab line my with the edge then back up looking out the drivers side till i get the front tires on the slab. This time as soon as my front tires hit the slab i give i little gas to bump it on. Little it I realized there was a tell palm tree dead center for the slab about a foot from it. Needless to say as soon as I pump the gas to get over the slab I hit the tree ruining the bumper of my RV. I have to say I've been doing this for a long time never once as I seen a tree park in the back of a slab in the dead center Outback close. Normally I would hang the RV over the back of the slab by about 6 or 8 feet Soma water and electric lines up. So yes I blame myself for not noticing that tree but at the same time I'm thinking who in the world would put a tree dead center of a camping pad that was supposedly rated for a 39 foot and -36 foot. Had I not put the front wheels on the slab the front of the motorhome would have been in the street.

I don't back or drive onto ANY site I haven't walked.
I'm a plumber & electrician and pull trailers with equipment on them all the time. I want to know what's on that lot that I may/could run over......or fall into.

To that point, my DW sole job when I am backing into a space is to make sure no child rides/runs/walks behind the rig as I am backing. Kids move way too fast, if traveling solo one needs to be very aware of what is behind them, and if kids are present be able to account for all as you are backing.

And as for the kid comment...nobody's "kid" should be playing, cutting through or running around a Site that they are not assigned to and that someone is backing up in. Totally uncalled for.

ANNOUCEMENT: All people who have ever struck an object with your motorhome, please turn your keys in to the nearest law enforcement agency and give up your motorhome! You are a danger to everybody! And I'll have to be first in line to give up my motorhome because I backed mine into a stack of wood in my shop once. Guess I'm just too dangerous to have a motorhome.

I will only suggest, if you don't travel alone, that you get a couple of two way radios and put your companion back there to spot for you. As was said earlier, it could have been a kid that ran behind your unit after you started backing in.

I know you are feeling bad about your mistake. But be glad that this time it was a tree and not a child!

And please plan for that. Kids move faster and more unpredictably than trees.

I imagine posting your experience allows you to get it off your chest and feel better... I get that.

Sorry, but didn't you look at the site as you drove up? :h You should have seen the tree then!
Sorry to be so harsh, but looking firs is important.

Were you alone? A companion could have been out there helping.

Looks like you made some assumptions that the slab length equaled the site (pad) length. I very seldom use the concrete pad to center my rig within a site. It may be centered and I may want to park near one of the ends.
