I don't know how many of you remember me but 5 years ago I purchased a 1995 Newmar 37 foot motorhome with the intention of traveling with my husband when I retired. He had Parkinson's and could not drive so I quickly learned how to maneuver my Lucy. I love driving her and we began camping around southern Wisconsin. I talked my sisters and their husbands into buying travel trailers so all three couples could go as often as we could on the weekends.

Sadly, my beloved husband of almost 50 years passed away from complications of Parkinson's and bone cancer in late August.

My first time out was with my wonderful sisters and it was very difficult for me. He always enjoyed riding shotgun with me and being taken care of in the motorhome. It was wonderful having all the amenities of home here on wheels that we had for him at home. Although I had to do all of the work, I didn't mind because I had him with me. This year was the only year that he couldn't go with me because he couldn't manage the steps anymore and we knew that it wouldn't have been reasonable to install a lift of any kind when we knew the outcome of the cancer. The one thing that he would do that always helped me was he would manage the level so that I could get the coach leveled. And he so enjoyed that knowing that he was able to help in some small way.

So now I travel alone with my little dog, Casey, who just seems to know that I need him with me all the time. I also travel with a new co pilot. This one is exactly like my old co pilot but this one has wings and watches over me constantly. I keep his picture on the dash and I'm constantly reminded of 50 years of a marriage made in heaven. I will miss him forever, but as I travel around southern Wisconsin I will be reminded of all the beautiful places we were able to enjoy the short time that we traveled in our "Lucy".

It has been awhile since I posted on this forum but I recall many names and many friendly people who helped me with so many projects that came with owning a motorhome. I want to thank everyone of you for being here for me and hope that you will continue to support me as I journey through the rest of my life with my Lucy, Casey and my guardian angel, Loren.

May God keep His guiding hand on the road ahead of all of you and keep you safe as you travel the highways of life.

Much love to all of you,
Lacy

A beautiful post Lacy, and my response is the old Irish blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

and may you be 30 minutes in Heaven before the devil knows you are dead.
A truly inspiring story. Good for you for "keeping on keeping on". So many would have just given up. You are honoring your late husband by continuing to live his dream.
Well done!

While I am sorry for your loss, I am relieved that you have picked up and gone on.

I lost a long time and dear friend recently, and in collecting things I came across a quote that I cannot attribute, but it says so much.

Don't cry because it is over, Smile because it happened.

Lacy, I am new here so we don't know each other from before, but I just want to express my support. You sound like a lovely person, and your hubby was so lucky to have you :).

Lacey--
I am so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. I remember when you bought your MH and how you learned to drive it and understand the systems. It is hard to go alone but you can do it. If I can answer any questions, please feel free to ask. I will keep you in my prayers.

Sorry for your loss and while it's too soon Holland, MI is not that far from Southern Wisconsin.:W My mother never thought there could be another man in her life, but fortunately there was.
I too had more than one tear. Safe travels and hang in there as it will get better with time.

Lacy, I am sorry for your loss! My mother died of parkinsons 11 years ago.
I admire your strength. My husband wants me to learn to drive our 34' motorhome, I am
a chicken! We retire in 4 years and want to see America.
Your post makes me want to give it a go! I am glad you have your dog, we have a golden
retriever who is getting too old to make it up the steps of the mh. So we haven't been
able to go camping as much as we'd like.
Good luck on your adventures! And keep us updated! ๐Ÿ™‚
