Residential Fridges

I remember oohing and aahing when I first saw a residential fridge in a motorhome, but now that I am learning the logistics it takes to keep that running on the road, how are they working out for you folks that have used them for a few years after having the 3-way gas type?

Any issues with parking in parking lots all day while you visit a national park? Park in front of the house for a few days loading or unloading? Are they working out or do you cuss them sometimes?

After having a residential fridge we would not go back! 4 batteries and a inverter work well. Having the larger fridge is great when traveling!! Also if we needed to replace it, we can get one for $700. 19cuft Stainless steel:)

I see you got a new 5er and TV Brad. Looks nice
I was skeptical before we bought but have been pleasantly surprised how well they do off the battery bank and inverter. Kind of the same feeling I had with the fireplace in the old 5er. Now the RR can join the fireplace as a must have, for us anyway.
Now ask about heated floors :B I'm getting soft I guess.

Gorgeous looking rig their Rick! still got the boat?

We are looking to move to the Class A and I was curious about residential fridges now that they have been around a while. The MH is probably better equipped for long running, as the one we looked at yesterday had 8 coach batteries and a 2 inverters, one dedicated for the fridge, but none the less I do leave mine parked for several days without power. From the responses, I don't think I have much to worry about and I just need to get past my hesitations - much like the fireplace as you say 🙂

We have had ours for about 3 years. No complaints. We occasionally dry camp for anywhere from a day or two to a week or two. No worries. We have a robust solar and battery system but the reality we always run our generator at meal preparation times, so say total of 90 minutes per day. We have no power problems.

Installed one about 3 months ago and works great. We only travel 5 or 6 hours a day and always plug in at a campground at night, so no inverter needed. I did buy 3 of those cold block things that I keep in the freezer; move two of them down into the fridge when unplugged because my wife has thousands of dollars of injections that have to be kept between 36 and 46 degrees ---- but they aren't really needed. I think I could stay unplugged 8 or 10 hours without the freeze blocks and still be OK.

It's really nice having quick recovery and much more cold/frozen food storage. Twice gone 24 hrs before recharging 6 house batteries. Pulls only about 1 Amp. on and off several times an hour.
Engine alternator charges all batteries while moving, as well as generator and shore power. So batteries are being charged most of the time.

What I HATE about mine is I now have to put the ice cream in the microwave for 20-30 seconds to make it soft enough to scoop out. Never had to do that with the NotSoCold 1200LRIM.....Dennis

In my class A (bus conversion) I have had no issues. The unit was installed in 1999 and I full time with it.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

OP, since you have a 5er it would require at least two more batteries an a inverter if you do not already have one. Samsung refers do well on a MSW inverter because the compressors are DC, not AC like most. I added four more batteries, a separate PSW inverter, another transfer switch, and a 100 amp charger as we boondock often. This system will run the refer for two days before needing to charge the batteries... longer than the rest of the MH electric needs.

We put one in our Fleetwood Expedition about 6 months ago. The extra space inside it and actually having cold beer are really nice. We dry camp at NASCAR races and run 2 fans all night long with the refrigerator and have never had a problem.

No problems at all. Coaches equipped with a residential fridge are also equipped with large battery banks and a sufficient sized inverter. We have stopped and shopped/explored for several hours without any battery draining problems. The fridges take very little amperage as long as you don't open the doors. I will never have another coach without one.
