Shiny RV with Red Max Pro (pics)

How many of you use this stuff? We were getting that chalky finish with faded and peeling graphics. I was waxing it with Meguiars--trying to avoid the graphics and spray them with 303 Protectant instead. I spray the dirt off after almost every trip too. We've only had it 15 months--I hated to see it get "old looking" under my care.
Replant just mentioned Lowes Red Max Pro and I read the links. Wow! Why not take the chance that the fiberglass would be looking shiny and new?
It worked! Here are a few pics.

The graphics bleed out color when washed.

And they were peeling up at the edges. I took a flat razor blade holder and trimmed off the peeling edges--

This is after the trimming. They are a bit ragged in places, but at least no longer peeling.

I used my little power sprayer with TSP in it and scrubbed with Bar Keeper's Friend as recommended.

This is the tire cover with one side is just washed with a sponge and TSP, the other is washed with a green scrubbie and Bar Keeper's Friend. I also used the white scrubbie (1000 grit sandpaper grade and much more expensive) for scratches--it did wonders even on the cab metal but for most of the job I used the cheap green stuff. I completely wore out 4 half sheets!

This is a "before" of the cleaned passenger side.

Red Max Pro Step 3 ready to apply.

Finished! It took me about 10 hours to do the job.

Plus I washed and waxed the cab. But by this time I was losing daylight so it is harder to see the shine.
I'm really pleased with the results. The recommendation is a new coat every year--that is a lot longer time period than waxing.
This was a good project for the start of a great season. I think it was worth the effort!

I recently ZEP'ed mine and was very pleased with the outcome. After a 5 day trip from Texas to Roanoke, Virginia and back, with 2 days of that solid rain, it appears that some dirty areas are showing through. I'm thinking the ZEP has washed off because I didn't get all of the ZUD off. Would that be correct? If so, what is the best process to clean/strip before reapplying ZEP?

Yeah that is what I see. I figure that I didn't get the stripper completely rinsed off in this spot when I redid the job the second time.
I needed to get some scratches in the finish off from driving too close to brush in our backcountry adventures so I stripped it with the RMP stripper and scrubbed those areas again with BFK.
So the finish is not good now at the cabover. I don't know how long it has been like this but I need to do the whole thing again. But I don't really mind because I enjoy working on it and the finish lasts so long and looks so good compared to how I used to do it.

Here's a fly in the ointment for the RMP finish. Why did this happen? I'm thinking I didn't get the RMP stripper completely rinsed off here when I redid the finish last April. This sure looks like it is peeling on the cab over and it is whiter where it has worn off. I don't see any other areas like this one though. Rats! I wont' redo it until the weather gets cooler.

Are you talking about the peeling on the graphics? I can't see any peeling except there. This happened to me as well on my MH. The body came out great and had no peeling except on the graphics. Not sure if I still had some residue from BKF, but if don't get all of it off I think this will cause the peeling.

I still have my unopened bottle of Red MaxPro sitting in my garage since January. Have to get out there and tackle it after I redo some decals. for those of you with a Class C wanting to know how to tackle the cabover, I made a scaffold to remove my cabover window for resealing. Here's the link to the page, it's way down the page.

Bought the ladder on the left, cost a lot less than the emergency room insurance deductible and time off work.

A year has gone by after the RMP work and it still looks pretty good, but not like it did last year.

How have people touched up the work? Or is it back to the BKF and TSP?

Original instructions indicated to clean well and apply another coat each year. You could even do a couple coats, but you shouldn't have to do the Bkf and Tsp again, as I understand it.

A Heads up!.

The red max pro #3 is on clearance at Lowes. They will not be carrying it anymore

My local lowes has over 10 gals left. (I just bought 4) It is a whopping 3.73 a gal.

Most of the lowes stores I checked in California have some in stock. Prices vary. The bay area Lowes has it for 5.79 a gal.

Check online to see who has it ans what the price is at the store.

Two step ladders and a plank works well doing the front.

I agree with what chrisjpr said...That's basically the way I did it. When I positioned the ladder...I would put one knee on the hood...making sure most of my body weight was at the ladder...you don't want to go through the front windshield...

I was going to wait and do the nose on the return from my trip this week-end....we got them love bugs...I'm hoping that the waxing will help them love bugs slide off...

I say one thing...motor home looks GOOD!!!!

As has been stated before, try a wet bounce dryer sheet on those love bugs. Don't know what kind of bug we had on our TT but after returning from our SD trip, it made short work of our bugs. Good luck, John

I haven't read all 37 pages yet, but the one question I have is: How would someone get to the front cap of a Coach House. They call it a class C, but I call it a B. I have sat on my patio cover (all wood) but that ain't to smart of a thing to do. Any response/help would be appreciated.

I do the top half of the nose cap from the roof, laying on my stomach reaching down. Then I do the lower half with a step ladder, positioned in front of the rig.
