Demco Excali-bar and base plate and just installed a base plate on the Wife's Traverse this week so we can start towing the wife's car, instead of the jeep.

We use a Demco Dominator tow bar, Blue Ox base plate and the Airforce One braking system. Our tow vehicle is a Jeep Unlimited. Really like the set up. We find the Demco tow bar to be very superior to the Blue Ox that we used to use.

Tow Bar - ReadyBrute Elite
Base Plate - Blue Ox

If you go the ReadyBrute route, your braking system is incorporated in the tow bar assembly so there's not extra "stuff" to install and hook up. That said, whatever system you choose, please look at the ReadySTOP addition. It's on their website I've provided below. The ReadySTOP addition will STOP the towed vehicle in the event it disconnects from the towing vehicle..$109.00...Dennis

Not only do I endorse this system, but although not mechanically inclined, I successfully installed this system myself!!

I also use the ready brute elite and recommend it. We went to the factory in Kansas and had them install the demco base plate. Good people and easy to work with.

ReadyBrake (love the easy hookup and go) with a Demco light weight towbar. I had the towbar first, so I just added the ReadyBrake attachment. If I were to purchase new equipment I would just get the ReadyBrake Towbar unit. I don't remember what baseplate the shop used but it doesn't matter as ReadyBrake (and many other towbars) permit changing of the end coupling to match lots of brands.
