I know there are a lot of places, butwhere did you love to go for a few days. I do not mind dry camping. We have been going to Las Vegas often but that is a little longer than I would like. What do you suggest. Thank You

If you have access to Military bases, Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside Ca. has a beautiful CG right on the beach. And when I say right on the beach, you are parked on the beach sand. Full hookups are about $47 a day. It may sound like a lot but for an ocean front site in southern California that's cheap.

Buena Vista County park has very large, full hookup sites. It is run by Kern County, just North on the I-5 above the 99 split. There are two lakes, one is great for ski-boats and jet skies. The smaller lake, Lake Webb, is stocked with trout regularly and does not allow anything over 5hp. There is plenty of shoreline for casting (we don't boat). A group of the kids and grandkids went there a few weekends ago and had a blast, want to do it again.

San Elijo SP, S. Carlsbad SP, San Clemente SP, all hard to get in the summer. Newport Dunes but it's pricey anytime.

Every year we spend two or three weeks in the June Lake loop. There are four great trout lakes and three great trout streams within 30 min. Scenery is unbelievable and lots of rv parks to choose from. We prefer Oh Ridge which is a state camp ground and thus no hook ups. There is water and a dump station. Sites are large and views fantastic. If you prefer Bass fishing, Bridgeport is less than an hours drive and has some big bass.

Bass or trout?

For trout, I like June Lake, Bishop area. For bass, checkout some of the local lakes.

Lake Piru is just north of you...Over the Grapevine is Bakersfield RV Resort...In Orange County, try Canyon RV Park, Featherly Canyon, 91 and 241, or if you want solitude yet closeness, try Santiago Event Center and RV Park in the foothills near Irvine Lake. Ron Caspers Park out Ortega Hwy east of San Juan Capistrano is awesome too. You can go north and camp at many State Parks, Carpenteria, Refugio, Malibu, Lake Cachuma, Shaver Lake...the list is endless....Dennis

We like Thornhill Broome State Beach (near Point Magu). It's dry camping though. In the Santa Barbara area there's Refugio SB and El Capitan SB. There's also some County beach CG's (all dry camping). If you want full hookups there's Oceanmesa (on the other side of the 101 from El Capitan).

So. cal is a huge place. Maybe you should be a little more specific on how far you want to go from home. There are tons of lakes everywhere, some nicer than others. Cachuma is a great lake, used to go there as a kid. Plenty of fresh water fishing. Skip lake perris, it's mainly crowded with jet ski's and boats. Diamond valley lake near hemet is an excellent fresh water fishing lake, i've heard.

The beaches, mountains or deserts. :E

There are CA state parks at all of those types of destinations, just go to reserveamerica.com and find a CA State park to suit your taste. The down side is most of them are full 6 months in advance, especially on weekends (on & off season) :S

Other people mentioned indian casinos with RV campgrounds, that's a nice option as well.

Happy Trails!
