Hello,

Last weekend we had our first camping trip of the year. We usually have S’ Mores but my daughter got braces this past spring so S’ Mores are out. We are looking for any fun campfire treats. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Craig

Here's what we're making. Wannadingers! Also known as biscuit on a stick.

Here's a blog post I made giving step by step directions on how to make the sticks. You can use them over and over for years to come and all the Wannadingers will be uniform in size. No more crying because one's biscuit is bigger than another.

I've included ideas for filling not only for dessert but the three meals of the day also. I will check back to see if anyone here has other ideas for filling.

For dessert while camping, we use one of our dutch ovens. Pour a jar of home canned fruit, a white cake mix and a can of 7up in the bottom of the oven. Place the lid on top and place oven in coals for about 30mins. Check to see if is looks done, scoop into bowls and add vanilla ice cream if you have any.
Tips:
Any fruit- fresh, canned or frozen works, including pie filling
Any lemon lime soda (sprite, squirt, 7up, mountain dew, generic)
White or yellow cake mix of any brand

I don’t know how you feel about it but pork and chicken wings barbecue always work with the kids when on a camping trip. We’d sometimes roast some sweet potatoes as well.

Spiderdogs!!

The grandkids no nutz for these, even now when there adults!

Simply cut the ends into quarters lengthways put em' on a skewer and roast over the campfire until the spider legs curl up, hit em' with some mustard and enjoy!!

Hmmm, cream cheese with a little powdered sugar mixed in? Sounds good to me.:B

Wouldn't mind trying that myself. Enjoy! Keep those cook fires going!

I did, this weekend we are going to try roasting twinkles.

Last weekend we made foil packets of bananas and strawberries with marshmallow fluff and chocolate chips. Those were really good. I was also thinking about slicing up a banana or strawberries over the Twinkie, sprinkling with chocolate chips and wrapping it in foil.

Thanks everyone for all the great ideas!

Happy among!

Charszy/Craig: did you ever decide which of the suggestions you're going to try?

Cinnamon Biscuit on a Stick
• 1 can store-bought biscuits
• 1 container of squeeze butter
• Cinnamon/sugar shaker mixture
Opt. 1 can of Cream frosting
Roll out a biscuit with your hands so that it becomes elongated and about 1-inch thick at the center. Wrap the biscuit around a cleaned stick. Pinch the dough as you wrap it around the stick to insure it stays on the stick while cooking. When done wrapping the biscuit, it should take about 6 inches of the stick. Heat over the campfire until golden brown. Pull off the stick and drizzle with the squeeze butter then sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Mock Angel Food Cake
• French bread, unsliced cubed
• Sweetened condensed milk
• Grated or shredded coconut
• Stick
Place a cube of bread on the end of a stick. Dip in milk and roll in coconut. Roast over the coals until a little browned and then enjoy.

Brown Bears
• 24 uncut hot dog buns
• 2 lbs margarine, melted
• Sugar and cinnamon
Dip buns in melted margarine and roll in cinnamon and sugar. Put on stick and roast over hot coals until crispy.

Pigs in Blankets
• 24 hotdogs
• 24 canned biscuits
• Ketchup, mustard
Put hot dog on a stick or purchased wire stick. Stretch biscuit thin and wrap around hot dog. Cook over coals until biscuits are cooked. Spread one side with mustard and/or ketchup

Little Smokies cocktail sausages are great when fire roasted, too.
