Awning pull down strap

My awning does not have the strap to pull it down. Since I am a solo senior woman, this makes it near impossible to pull out the awning. Can this strap be added to my present awning? All recommendations will be appreciated.

I am currently heading south to Arizona.

Yes, it is.

I think what SAR is asking of the OP, Is your strap maybe rolled up inside your awning right now? Could be the reason you see no strap!!!. Get two people to help get the awning unrolled and look for the strap. It might be there, if not it is easy to then install a new strap

DOh!
Now I get it.

You don't say what kind of RV you have, but almost certainly you can add a pull strap. The awing tube should have a slot full length for the strap to slide into.
And again depending on your RV, you may well need an awning pull rod to initially pull the strap and awning down and to use to let the awning retract slowly.

Any RV Dealer or Camping world will have the strap and you should have a awning rod. Of course as long as yours isn't a electric model. Happy Camping to you.

It has nothing to do with you being a senior women. Without the strap very hard to open or close. Overtime the straps break and need to be replaced. Perhaps this is what happened to yours. The straps are available at most of not all RV dealers or supply centers.

As a solo senior woman.......you should not publicize your email address and phone number. Too much information!

Strap can be added. Just need to purchase one and an awning rod to reach strap when rolling it out/in.
Strap slides in roller grove. Sometimes the roller end caps block direct access to grove.......just need to use a 1/4" drill bit to make a slanted opening in grove near the end of roller so you can slide the strap into grove.

Fellow campers will help out if you ask.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I guess your awning is not electric? If this is the case, then yes, a strap can be added. It slides into the groove on the roller tube opposite from where the awning fits. I can see how it would be nearly impossible to open the awning without a strap. You will have to open it completely to install the strap however, then hold on tight when you retract it so the strap does not get away from you. You will also need a rod to reach the strap to pull the awning open and to close it.

I would stop at the first Camping World store and purchase the strap. Then at your first campground stop, ask a couple of your fellow campers to help. Most likely there will several guys like myself willing to help.
