Wondering if anyone is using the navigational aid Waze app on their Smart phone when on-the-road?

How do you like it, and does it work everywhere you travel?

I use Co-Pilot also. What has concerned me about Waze is that the maps are edited by users. Anyone with an account can sign into the website and change a map - correctly, or maliciously. The phone also must have data connected for Waze to work and as their website says, this can use a lot of data. The maps coming from CoPilot are commercially produced maps and are free downloads that are stored on the phone or tablet - no need for any data while traveling, you have all of the maps for the entire country - or the maps for the regions you want. Copilot has RV mode and will route around low overpasses and propane restrictions - based on what you have set into your RV profile. For $10 this is an RV specific GPS that functions as well as the RV standa lone units. (CoPilot includes a one year subscription for traffic coverage which does use data but from my experience it uses very, very little data over a five hour trip. After the first year traffic costs $10 a year - or just don't have traffic and all other premium features work.)

If you could install the maps on your phone and have Waze work without data I might consider it - but from what I see, you can't do any of that.

while waze can be used as a GPS but it's really more of a real-time traffic app. I ran it continuously in my jeep on a trip between Chicago and Port Charlotte, FL. it didn't use a whole lot of data.

I'm trying to get the Waze app to 'talk.'

Will it give you verbal as you go alert for red light cameras, school zones, speed limit, etc. without programming in a destination?

I can't seem to get it to work.

I use waze sometimes but Co pilot is my app of choice over all the rest. You don't need internet for it to work.

Google bought Waze a couple of years back and incorporated some of the technology into Google Maps.

We went back to Google maps last year. The newer versions of Waze may be different but.
Waze was a huge battery hog and causes my Samsung SIII to overheat.
Even when plugged into the charger, my phone battery can barely keep up.
Other than offering info about traffic conditions Waze really had nothing to offer over Google Maps.

One issue with both Google and Waze is that you can't route multiple stops.

We have been trying CoPilot for a while and it lets you do multiple stops and waypoints. We run it on an old 7" tablet. I like that I can force it to use the roads you want to use by using waypoints.

But I honestly think that Google Maps is the superior application.
I thought when I retired my Hobby would be RVing.
I was wrong, my Hobby apparently is Finding and stopping leaks.

I use Waze both in my Jeep and in or Motorhome. I generally know where I'm going, I leave the navigation to my wife. But Waze keeps gives me heads up to what's directly a head. Knowing there is a car, cop or object in the road is a great asset. My wife does any reporting while we drive as she's running Waze as well.

You can reroute with Waze, so play around with it and understand the features.

X2!! As Y-Guy said, I like the alerts about road hazzards, police, and even red light cameras. Great whey you are travelling in an area that you are not familiar with. Also, gives my wife something to do while we are travelling. ๐Ÿ™‚

I use it when driving cross country in the jeep but not in the MH. I find it more useful for traffic backups than anything else. google maps or INRIX traffic will do the same.
