Would you change from DirecTV to Dish to get HD?

Has anyone had both Dish & DirecTV using the same Winegard dome satellite antenna? I've been a DirecTV subscriber for several years, but noticed a considerable difference in the picture quality with a friend using the Winegard Traveler antenna with DirecTV and receiving an HD signal instead of my digital only reception using my Winegard dome. I know that I could change the tabs on the dome and receive HD with Dish. Is the picture as good as the Traveler HD? Would you change for the difference? Thanks for any replies!

In our case when we go full time we are going to change from the Winegard Dome to the Winegard Travelr dish, not for the HD channels per say but, for the bigger dish, less interference from weather, better overall reception, AND the ability to use a DVR, capable of supporting 2 TV's at the same time, watching different programs.

If your tv's are HD why not have a service that lets you view HD?

Our tv's are HD and DISH was/is the best choice...in our opinion.

Go with HD. I hate having to watch SD now that I'm used to the vastly superior HD picture.

stay with SD; HD is just not worth all the hassle of changing antenna, changing recvr's & added complexity. HD doesn't change the news or the outcome of your favorite game, the idiots on the network look the same, its just TV.

If you are willing to spend that much money to watch commercials, I would also recommend the Travler and stay with DTV.

Although my RV is a 2014 it wasn't wired with the extra wire that Traveler needs. I currently only use one receiver, but DW wants a DVR. I should be able to do that with either DirecTV or Dish, but Dish would give me HD.

With DirecTV's SWM (single wire multiswitch) system these days you only need a single coax running from your satellite antenna to your receiver. So your RV will already have what you need in order to run a DVR. We have a Genie HR44 with 5 tuners, all running off of one coax from the dish to the receiver/DVR.

It's just television. When camping we watch one movie a night. Too much other fun stuff to do. I would not

Do you use a DVR or more than one receiver? If you don't, would you like to? If it were me (and it's not!) I would keep DTV and dump the dome for a Trav'ler. If you don't mind no DVR and only one receiver (and the other dome issues) then you will get excellent HD with Dish and a dome.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?
