Adventures in By-passing Closed I95 in SC

So I jump on I26E from Columbia SC and right into a construction zone and heavy traffic (presumably because 95 is closed). Within five minutes some bozo pulling a construction trailer passes me and cuts back in front of me, perhaps one foot from my bumper. Within ten minutes a semi's tire shredded with huge pieces in the roadway, with resulting emergency stops from another semi across both lanes, plus me and everyone behind me. Fortunately no damage but I thought of turning around to the CG. Construction for another ten miles or so and then it was smooth till 95S. Didn't pass any evidence of the flooding

To late now but I suggest the Waze app on your smart phone if you have one. It uses the GPS in your phone but utilizes crowd sourced current information. The app will direct you to leave the highway and take a better route when traffic is slow.

I travel through Columbia on I-20 regularly and hate it. It's like a mini-Atlanta sometimes. If I avoid peak traffic in Atlanta, I manage to catch it wrong in Columbia. Two of the six blowouts I've had on my FW were right in Columbia at rush hour.

I also had the misfortune of taking the detour last week, and I must say it was the worst road I have ever traveled. In addition to the traffic, the condition of the road was terrible. I felt like I was driving on speed bumps with an occasional pot hole to add some variety to the trip. I pulled over after hitting one of the pot holes and discovered my glass sliding doors were off the tracks, fortunately they stayed connected on top. Some of my cupboard doors opened up and things scattered all over the floor. My factory installed microwave unhooked from its lower brackets and last but not least it took a chunk out of my rear dual tire sidewall. I am glad 95 has reopened so others do not have to drive the obstacle course.
