Being from the Midwest I TOO used to think WHY would anyone want to move to a state with hurricanes?

Once you get down here and really learn about it FLorida has the least of all bad weather conditions other states offer.

First of all years can go by without one. Unlike tornadoes and severe storms in the Midwest. Name one year there was not a tornado or severe storm in the Midwest.

If you live RIGHT on the coast in Florida that's your choice and your odds do go way up. There are areas along the west coast that have not had a hurricane hit landfall in 100 years as far back as they have recorded them.

INLAND Florida does not spontaneously implode when a hurricane hits the coastal areas. There are numerous areas inland where you can choose to live and be hurricane free.

When was the last time you heard Disney was completely obliterated off the map from a hurricane? Inland that's the key word, Disney wasn't stupid. And IMHO the inland areas are way more nicer than right on the coast.

I did my research and talked to local Floridians till the cows came home about location, location, location before I purchased property down here.

Can the inland be hit with a tropical storm from the aftermath of a huge hurricane? Yes but no worse than any EVERY spring storm across the country.

I have had tornadoes hit my house at three different locations that I lived at. IMHO it is way more horrific than a hurricane since if you are lucky you just might get a 5 minute notice to get to your basement and hold on to your butt for dear life.

The day the 4th tornado in my life touched down in the row behind me at a CG I was at while I was Rv'ing? .....Is when I headed for Florida. :C

You have had tornadoes hit every house you lived in??? :E If I were you I think I would start going to church or something. This house was built in 1942 and has never been hit by a tornado. I'm 50 years old and I've never been closer then 2 miles from one.

They have come by though I will admit but, they only hit a small area.

I am just glad I am here in Florida where there was a serious weather condition here also on Thursday resulting from that same storm.......

It got down to 32 degrees for a whole 2 hours right before sunrise when the temps went right back up to 70! Whew, that was a real bear to endure!!

Un Huh, just wait until the next Hurricane hits Florida

Hmmm, up to ten days notice of when a hurricane will hit landfall........
put MH in drive and head North to CG. Pull in, open cold one, and watch it all on TV :W

Drive back home, try to find house, file insurance claim...

Thanks for reminding me why I LOVE Las Vegas. Sure, 115 degrees isn't pleasant, but when your survival gear consists of a pool, an umbrella, and a floating beer cooler, you have to count yourself lucky!

I am still cleaning up after 2 hurricanes hitting us last month. Loads of tree & foliage damage. I'll take doing this in high 60s & low 70s temps over dealing with all of that white stuff. No thanks.

I suppose if you live in Buffalo you would have known this was coming 5-7 days ahead of time. Then you could have put the MH in drive and head south to Florida until the storm was over.

(I'm not trying to be a smart aleck , though I know this post may sound like it. I apologize for that. I don't' explain myself very well . )

Here in the sunny PNW, we have had one tornado warning yesterday for a town called Montesano, which is about 1/2 way between Olympia and Aberdeen on the coast. Today they have put up tornado warniongs for the section of 101 in Washington from milepost 9 to mp 26. That is on the east side of Willapa Bay east of Long Beach and is basically right on the coast. Man,it could really suck a lot of those great tasting oysters out of the water.

The "horror" is those cold night time temps!

Yikes! - Probably need a jacket or sweat shirt..:(

"Snow Plan" - if there's still snow in the San Berdo mtns, 2 hrs away - surf in the AM, head for the afternoon session on the slopes.
(Can they do that in FL?..:@..)

Yep. Did that in my youth. Surfed in the AM. And went night sking in the PM. Ahh the memories.

Considering that the highest point in FL is 345 feet ... I'd be worried about a tsunami!!

I would love to see pictures from the RV dealers. The three big ones have stores in the area where the band of snow hit. We're 60 miles south in ski country and only got around 8 inches ...but it 40 tonight and raining!
