Bark, bark, bark continuously!

First off, I am a dog owner, have worked with dogs for years, play with dogs and love dogs.

Currently in an Elite RV resort in central FL with about 300 sites half of which are privately owned and the remainder are rentals. This place is clean except for the sites with oak trees and the park is dog friendly.

Our neighbors are often gone for the day or evening and leave their dog in RV while away. As soon as they leave their dog starts barking and does not stop until they return. The dog barks enough to cause his bark to become hoarse and labored sounding.

My question is: "When is the appropriate time to complain to the office and what kind of response should one expect to receive"?

I think every RV park or campground I have stayed at has a rule about NOT leaving dogs alone in a RV when gone. My opinion with years in LE I would go to the office and not confront the offender. I have seen these things go to S---!

Why would you go right to the office, without giving the owners a chance to fix the problem? It's totally possible that the neighbors have no clue what's going on while they are away. Going straight to the office is just going to create unnecessary tension between you.

Approach them with a positive attitude as others have suggested. Chances are they will welcome the information and deal with it. If not, then the office would be your next step.

Sorry, these people already know their dogs bark!

No use getting into a bad situation with a neighbor. That is what Management is for!

Is a CG/resort actually going to do anything is the question. It's nice to consider complaining to the office, but sometimes they don't do anything. I would call the local animal control in some cases. If it's noise and they won't do anything, I'd ask for another site. I wouldn't feel guilty about complaining.

We have a membership in a CG with 250+ sites (they also own 9 or so CGs) and every time we go, there are dogs that aren't on leashes, despite being a CG rule. Our dog was attacked once by an off-leash bulldog. A co-worker of DW was chomped in his family jewels by a bulldog and had to get stitches. The cops were called but the owners high-tailed it back to Canada. It may even have been the same dog. Every time we go, we still see dogs that are not on a leash. The CG management apparently could care less about enforcing their rules. The dog issue plus a couple of others is enough that we're now considering selling our membership and going elsewhere. For the amount of money we spent on the membership, it's outrageous they do such a poor job enforcing their rules.

When we take our dog to our CG, we never leave him alone inside. If we go out for part of the day, there's a doggy day care nearby he gets to go to. If we want more freedom to be able to go to the clubhouse, out for dinner, etc., he stays home with family or friends.

Unfortunately, some dogs just don't have responsible owners.
Unfortunately, some CG owners aren't responsible either.

We had a lady in the site next to us once that had smoker's hack and she sat outside from sunrise to sunset and coughed loudly non-stop. I would have taken any barking dog over that. It was awful and there were no other sites available. There are no rules about coughing all day long outside... ๐Ÿ˜ž

Actually THIS is the answer.

I just asked to be moved and when the manager asks why I tell them.

Trust me they don't want to move good campers around so they usually just go to the offender and say stop it or you get out! :B

Just 20?...record hours worth and play it back with the speakers pointed in just his direction!
If the dog owner doesn't get the message in 20 minutes he is probably brain dead.

Only problem with that plan is that then the offended gets to suffer through it all over again.

As does those around the play-back. I believe the answer is with management and any statement that the person "owns the spot" is lame and an excuse to not do anything. Not a place I'd want to stay at. I have had a more caring responses at public parks.

Sadly a lot of owners never consider the emotional issues their dogs go through when being left alone. Some of them do as this poor pup and cries all day probably because he doesn't know what else to do.

No reason to suffer on. Ask the office to give you a quiet site, or refund the balance of your money and you can leave.

Another reason to always pay with a card.

Here's my very logical, if not hypocritical, thinking:

1) If someone has a problem with my behavior, then I'd like them to come to me personally. I'm a very nice guy and I don't get upset at people who point out that I'm breaking the rules or upsetting them in some way. I'd rather not deal with the authorities on some minor thing.

I'd really like it if everyone took their problems directly to their neighbors first because I may be your neighbor one day.

2) If someone else is breaking the rules egregiously and it is affecting me, then I'd take it to management. They get paid to deal with these things. Unfortunately, if 30% of people react poorly, that's too much for me to take the risk of vandalism or physical violence.

The reality is that a lot of folks, if not the majority, are like me in this one regards. Remember, that they have a vested interest in you taking it to your neighbor personally even though they may not do that themselves. They are quite alright with you risking your personal safety because it could help them in the future.

I was parked at a Walmart in Brunswick,GA a few years ago. A motorhome pulled in and a man got out and put up a portable fence. Then his wife started to hand out Yorkies. Bottom line, they had 25 Yorkies. My wife went over and spoke to the owners. All 25 were their pets. NOW THAT'S A RECORD.
