A lot of cash doesn't seem like a good idea. Certified checks can be forged.

Wire transfer?

Even if done at the buyers bank, a cashiers check is suspect. Buyer goes to teller and gets a $100 cashiers check. Palms it and then comes to you and hands you a phony check for $50K. Wire transfer ONLY!

I have always gone to the buyers bank and accepted a certified check directly from the bank. I would have no problem accepting cash, but it would have to happen at my bank so I could deposit it immediately (and the bank would make sure the cash wasn't counterfeit). I also always offer to go with the buyer to register his purchase at the county courthouse if he would like.

So, short answer, at a bank.

We took a cashier's check to the sellers bank, they verified and then we received the title. I like the idea of doing The transfer at the buyers bank, watching the check get cut. I also like the idea of opening an account to deposit the funds there right away.

Bank to Bank wire transfer.
We sold a car, went to our local Credit Union, it was a shared baking location. His informant ion, and ours given to banker. The agreed amount was transferred from his account to ours. Then the Title was handed over.

I would NEVER want to exchange $50,000 in CASH EVER!!

Go to the buyerโ€™s bank. That is where the money is coming from and they wonโ€™t transfer it unless it is really there. Iโ€™ve opened an account just so I could be certain the money was clear.

Any check can be part of a scam. Once the bank hands it over, all bets are off.

X2 Don't do it at your bank. No way of knowing the check is good.

People get cashiers checks and money orders at the bank a day or so ahead of the puchase. Now they call them in as lost or stolen. Next they come to you to buy the RV. Always do it at the bank and make sure the paper is good!
