Why get a Black RV A/C shroud instead of a white one? Seems the black one would get hotter. Is there a reason other than color?

Can't wait for them to come out in Harvest Gold or Avocado. Then you'd be talking fashionable.

That's exactly what I was thinking. lol

My Grandmother bought a brand new Harvest Gold Frigidaire household fridge in 1976. I used it until last year. Then I gave it to some friends that are still using it.

Since, contrary to many opinions, the air conditioner does not cool outside air, instead it cools the air from inside the RV, the color of the shroud would have a minimal effect. As soon as the compressor fan kicks on it is seeing only ambient air temperatures.

You can buy the shrouds in either black or white. I suspect black has more pigment and better uv rejection.

But black holds heat, does not help cooling.

Actually, black radiates heat. That is why stove pipes, car radiators, cast iron stoves and heatsinks are painted black.

Fusion paint is the answer to the color and it blocks the UV rays. My unit came with a black cover, the second AC I had the dealer install had a white cover. The trailer is brown and tan so now both AC covers are tan, just like the roof.

I wonder if black is better for withstanding UV light.

The black shroud reduces efficiency 31% and increases the output temperature by 7 degrees, but are so much more attractive on darker colored RV's.
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

Nobody answered the "black and cooling" question yet. Does black shrouds effect cooling?? Don't know ?

I'm sure any adverse effect would be very minimal. The fan pushes air through the condenser, it doesn't just sit there.

I seriously doubt it and if it did you would not know it by standing in the RV. Black looks better on my roof with my TT's paint scheme so I painted both AC's black, 2 Max AirII's black, the vent caps black and the skylight for the shower black. Looks great. I'm over the white look.

If you look at some RVs with full paint you will see that black would look better than white. You can't see the roof but you can see the air conditioner. When being built, some are even painted a color to blend with the full paint - brown, dark green, etc.

You got it, from the factory my A/Cs matched my Body,, Today one of them still does, other is White (matching roof) If I ever have to repaint,,, I may have them fix that.

Black shrouds seems to be a better match for my 'camouflaged' Voltage.
