Campground Trash

Another 3 day weekend has ended and the old problem is seem. It seems a 3 door dumpster only has one door that works. It doesn't have to a long weekend but all the trash gets throw in nearest door. When the area is full the door is lifted little more and piled higher leaving the doors nearly empty.
This isn't a Illinois State Park Problem as I have in other parks and other states. A sign had been used previously but not successful.
I thought part of recycling was putting the trash waste containers so animals didn't eat, swallow and/or choke on people waste.

Pack in/pack out is a great concept, but I see no reason why not to provide a dumpster....

Simple really, most people don't adhere to the "pack in/pack out policy!"

Myself, I was a Boy Scout and still try to follow the "leave your campsite cleaner than you found it" rule. Happy camping, John

Please respect you campsite, as others would like to use it also.

Great sign/rule. Isn't it a shame, though, that some simply don't respect the next camper to use the site and put the glass etc in the ring in the first place?

I think it's a major win. Most of the hogs would leave it at their campsite.

Visited a beautiful day use park in RI this summer and they also had no trash cans. They handed you a garbage bag when you passed through the gate and I'm pretty sure there is a central spot to dump it when you left. The park was pristine

It works quite well. Of course, there is always some damfool tourist who leave his trash bagged by the side of the road, thinking the camphost will pick it up. They are, however, fairly rare. Most people read and follow the rules.
Even the tourists....

Delaware does that in the day use areas and it works fair. I for one am not going to haul back home certain items. For example, dog poo. I am not hauling that stuff home. I will pick it up and bag it, and walk to the rest rooms, which DO have trash containers near by. I would not camp in a campground that would require me to take my trash home with me, I am not going to hold onto a weeks worth of trash to take home. It would be a bit tangy by then.:E
Full timing it since July 2012

I usually just push the trash back/over and it will fall into the unused areas.

Then I throw my bag of trash towards the back.

I figure it's a basic WIN that folks even take their trash to the dumpster.

Seems you're one of the few that care. The parks should be better prepared for a big weekend. Perhaps they don't care, especially the gov't parks, and will deal with it on Tuesday.
