Is there a way to reprogram the dic on a 2013 GMC 3500. The numbers when you scroll thru always seem to be wrong. Like the amount of fuel remaining, and the distance traveled, and the mpg. even the speed is off my GPS gives me speed and my dic always says a lower speed than what my gps tells me.....

When I purchased our Malibu in 2004, I determined after a couple months that the mileage was off by 1.8 mpg. It was always optimistic - I got 31.8 mpg! No, I actually got 30.
When I took it in for service and to have a minor factory defect repaired, I ask that they adjust the ratio for the MPG display in the Drivers Information Center (DIC). The response: "It is set at the factory, we don't have any way to change it".
As Bipeflier stated, it is for entertainment purposes only. Mine has always been right at 1.8mpg worse than the read-out, so I have a good enough idea of the actual numbers. This is my daily driver, and now with 178K miles on the clock, it is still getting around 29-30.
Our new Sunseeker has the MPG in the DIC as well - but the Sunseeker will never be driven on a consistent repeatable commute. Mileage will vary widely from one tank to the next due to road conditions, fill up locations, etc etc.
I'll install the ScanGaugeII from the ford, as that's what I used to get a general idea of the mileage from tank to tank. It'll give me a general idea of the info I seek.

Most of the information on the DIC should be labeled "For Entertainment Purposes Only".

I drive until I'm at 1/4 tank and start looking for a fuel depot. I can figure MPG if I want but when towing I really don't care.

So........... do all 2013 GMC 3500's have dic's?

The information is out there, all you have to do is let it in.

In 06 we towed to Brandon. If we are filling up during the day I fill the inbed tank to the max. I had the fuel used showing the number and when the guage showed 45 gallons I switch to the main tank. During the next fill I again did the max the tank could hold.

The pump was 45 gallons. Kinda seemed accurate to me. Not that good now.

I would ask the dealer to reprogram. on our 2015 duramax 2500HD, the speed and distance match the gps well. Speed is seldom different by even 1mph. distance traveled may be off by a 1 or so in 100 miles.

As for fuel, well another story. (1) in order for fuel used etc. to be accurate you MUST fill to exactly the same tank level each time, hard to do. (2) IMHO the readout if in error is on the high side for mpg.

on our duramax IF I fill the tank to where I can see fuel in the filler neck, on a 30 gallon fill the pump and DIC are usually within 1 gallon or less.

If you just go by automatic pump shutoff the differnce could be several gallons.

I would ask for a reflash at a chev dealer. Might help and might not but after our speedometer was repaired it helped to get closer numbers to what mileage and fuel used numbers should be. Last set of tires made the GPS and speedometer the same numbers.

This is what I think is wrong:

It is possible the truck does not have the correct data for gearing/trans/tire size or even fuel tank size which affect the calculations shown on the calculations. Only a dealer can confirm and configure that.

The mpg, the fuel remaining and the miles traveled are always wrong......

I believe DownTheAvenue's point is that this type of information is the owner's manual. After 16 hours, still no answer while it may take 3 minutes to look up. I often find the electronic copy more useful as I can search keywords.

The DIC information and controls are listed on page 5-29. It explains the fuel economy is an average since last time the average was reset for example. It explains how to reset it. It looks like there is an instantaneous speed and an average speed. Maybe he is looking at averages? Does he reset all the data every time he fills the tank?

Bob, can you explain in more detail or give examples of what you think is off?

Are the tires the correct size or did the dealer or you add upgraded wheels or tires. Sounds like the calibration is affected by tire/wheel size.

You'll need a dealer or mechanic to re-calibrate the parameters.
