Direct TV Remote Location

We have Direct TV in our home and another receiver in the MH. When we are out of the footprint for our local configuration it was my understanding I called and/or made changes to the system identifying our location by zip code.

This I did in Mackinaw, Mi and the TV did not receive signals. I spent well over an hour on the phone with a bozo from some country reading a computer screen to me.That did not reconcile the problem. I have a self locating permanent installed dish and have not had this trouble until in Mi.

My question is: How do I notify the Direct TV signal where I am and how do I get service from a person understanding English and the ability to analyze the problem if/when this issue reappears?

Thansk.

I've never gotten a foreigner with Direct. As to changing service address, I did this twice in the last 2 weeks. First person said it couldn't be done; I asked for retention; it was done in seconds. Second time the regular service rep did it in minutes. I'm pleased with Direct.

I have never spoken to a rep that was outside this country all have been in the USA. This is a reason we went with Direct TV they hire 98% US citizens. Now that ATT took over it may have changed but i don't believe so. So I ask is this just a general bashing of customer reps or has Direct made major changes in the last year and hired all foreigners and I am the only one that doesn't get them. This thread surprises me I always have good service with Direct.

In addition to the comments above, we find that we get a different answer from every different person we talk to. No consistency. the comment about the retention department does work. just tell the customer no-service person you are talking to that you are thinking about cancelling your service. they quickly transfer you to the retention department and they are very helpful.

Ditto, no reason to change the zip. Get the settings online if you need the heading etc...

When ever I have to talk to a person in customer service and have a hard time understanding their accent, I tell them I can't understand them and I need to talk to someone who can speak English, it usually works.

I have Directv and use a receiver from home when on the road. I never bother calling them, and interestingly, I get my local channels throughout the west. But when I don't, all the other channels work fine and I just use my winguard antenna to tune in local channels.
Works for me.

Vastly prefer chat over talking to someone on the phone.

I've found many people in my 20 years of traveling the world in the US Navy, and some 20 years after that mostly working corporate IT in a worldwide company - that many people in/ from other countries can read and comprehend English very well, but have trouble with our various accents and speaking without their original accent.

Plus, I don't hear very well any more - especially over telephones.

Does directv have a chat line? I have Dish, but have found the chat line works very well. Although I have only had minimal problems with the phone most times.

The zip lookup in your sat box is to tell you what the tilt, azimuth etc is for your location.

To change locals, you call up DTV, get to tech support and ask to change your SERVICE ADDRESS.

Your chances of getting English tech support is better during the day.
