Do You have dump rage?

You know the scenario weekend warrior gotta dump at the end of the weekend and the line is long.

I'm finding myself more and more irritated at the free dump stations. I only boondock and these stations are in bigger towns that are on my way home so I have no other choice. Closest dump station to me is an hour from my house.

I've been picking up a few handy tips as well to make it as fast as possible. However there is always these things that blow my mind when I pull up.

Usually I don't get too wound up but this one really got me, but after I really thought about it, it might actually make the process even faster.

So I come to the dump guy is unloading in front of me. I get my door up and my hose out and actually walk up and lay my hose down before my turn.

Guys are nice and then I see him and his friend pulling in a water hose i think it was a drinking hose no less attached to the nasty dump hose spigot hose. He proceeds to run it through the window and another 10 minutes goes by. I was next inline so I was patient as you have to be watching him unhook the water line with it turned on etc. Always good for a laugh.

Now there is a great line behind me at least 5 campers deep. This guy rolls up in a class A on the opposite side of the dump. I can see him putting on gloves and getting out when the first guy finishes his weird flushing procedure. The first guy in front of me was kind enough to actually move forward to put his gear away.(nice!)

So watching this other guy I KNEW what he was up too and I raced to get in position and get dumping. He's opened his bay door and pulls out his hose, I'm already hooked up an dumping at this point.

He says the worst part about camping is? I cut him off and said you know the line is way back there right. He says yeah but it'll just take a second. He knew I wasn't happy about what he was doing and I finished quickly and got outta there.

I know if i was next in line with this cutter I would have probably lost it on him.

I was trying to let him know its not right what you're doing with the long line of people behind me.

After I reflected awhile I kinda thought about something. It would only work in this type of dump. An island with enough room on both sides for the one dump. If you have 2 campers trying to dump. there is always the guy taking his time hooking up flushers putting gloves on and the other guy can be dumping so on an so forth. basically cutting the time down to only dumping and moving through the lineup faster. Of course it would only work if one is dumping an the other is setting up or tearing down.

But i see some of the most ridiculous things at these places I get anxiety dumping on a Sunday. Maybe the answer is time of day and time of week to avoid the dreaded dump station.

I've tried to develop a system for these types of places. They can really add a significant amount of time waiting on these clowns that take their time 3 deep can be an hour if everyone is flushing and doing god knows what else.

Be ready. Doors up hoses placed near ahead of time. dump. add some water down the sewer, pull away then collect your things so the next guy can move in. I try to be like pit crew at a indy 500 race. My record is 4 minutes from move in to move away.

Sorry for the rant but do you get DUMP RAGE?

If the property around my house was covered with welded armor plate I would still find a way to install my own home dump station. I'll never go without. Yes, I got a permit too.

Here's an easy solution I came up with. We also have a septic tank, but my tank is about 200 feet from where I park the camper. And there is no way I can dig a trench to run a line to the septic tank. I park my camper in different spots all the time. Creating a permanent dump spot at home simply would not work for me.

So, here's the solution I came up with. A few years ago when we had the tank pumped out, I called a plumber first who opened the tank (un-dug it), and he installed a pipe with a lid for easy clean out and never have to dig to reach the lid again.

This opened new possibilities. And I've been doing it this way every since! Works wonderful. I quit using the lawn mower, I just pull it by hand. It's actually easier than fiddling with the lawn mower!









The ramp is built with scrap lumber I had laying around. The boards rest on cinder blocks, and mid way between the high spot and the low spot, I put a stack of bricks to create a support. This works great! So you know, my blue tote gets used a LOT!

The worst thing about this set up is, I have to keep weed killer sprayed around the ramp. Sometimes there may be a little drip or a little spill from the end of the hose. Well ... let me tell you ... the grass grows marvelous right there! So I have to keep it killed out or it becomes an impossible weed patch. I hate trimming after mowing the grass. I prefer to use week-killer and then I never have to trim around anything.

Nothing is permanent. The cinder blocks just lay on the ground, the boards just lay on top of blocks. I do occasionally have to re-align the boards to get them straight again. They do have a tendency to move.

I installed a Waste master sewer hose system last year and one of the best mods I made to our fifth. No hooking or unhooking the hose, literally put the hose in the dump station and pull the valves. Makes it much quicker and less mess. High quality hose as well.

Nope I live way out in the country. But since you brought up the home thing If I did buy a macerator pump I do have a septic tank within 20 feet of the RV. Do Macerators push the waste out? like through a 50 foot garden hose?

If your parking spot is that close and level or downhill to the tank, you could just add a sanitary 'Y' to the house line to the tank and a short length of pipe with a clean out plug at the surface. A coupe of 10' lengths of sewer hose and your hooked up to dump. Or you could dig a trench and lay a 4" line to the tank with an elbow and a clean out right at the RV.

We never wait in line at the dump station anymore.

As others have said you can dump at home if you simply have a clean-out somewhere on the property. We use the Sewer Solution (water powered macerator) and it works great. Just need a 3/4" hose to connect it to the clean-out. Cost is about $50. Macerator pumps work great too.

That's exactly how the FloJet Waste Macerator is intended to be used - up to 50' of 3/4" diameter hose.

While I have a dump along my driveway, I would like to be able to use the trailer where I park it. My question about the FloJet is about pumping uphill a few feet and then disconnecting the garden hose when done. Does that hose retain liquid that will spill out when disconnected? I suspect that it would be necessary to hold the exit end in a bucket and walk it back to the pump and disconnect that end over the bucket.

Always get anxiety at a crowded dump station no matter what...either thinking I'm taking too long or something is going to go wrong and basically just not wanting to slow down other folks. Current storage has a couple of dump stations which is really nice since I can bypass campground or other dump if it's crowded.

On our recent 2-week trip (still overdue on that trip report) I saw a guy at the campground dump station with no hose just letting his tank dump "down the hole"...I let the teenage employee cleaning up another site know that he might want to stop them before he had a much worse mess to clean up. Luckily we had full hookups at that site so I didn't have to follow him through there.

A QUARTER MILE yikes i'd just pay for a night at the KOA before waiting in that disaster. You might as well pull out the slides and watch a movie as that line probably went no where!

Yeah i do that procedure at home once dumped you can use like a bucket or something and very little nasties comes out.

NEVER EVER EVER at the dump station. Now granted this was the only guy there at the time. besides me and it wasn't a big deal it was more about the cutter that showed up.


Although I don't think its to smart to use your drinking hose on whatever they were doing. he started with a pooper hose and something went wrong connecting to the hose at the dump he got sprayed in the face several times and they moved on to the drinking line as it was brand new and looked clean like it was the drinking line.

At least they had enough sense to move forward to put away all their stuff they had out (very appreciative). Most would painstakingly roll everything up all nice and tidy and waddle into the rv to wash their hands, then maybe take a smoke break before moving outta the dump zone.

I saw a line on the last day of a holiday weekend that stretched over a quarter mile, that's why we always stay at least an extra day.

And about the guy that ran a hose in his RV, I got around that by putting a valve and a quick disconnect (for a garden hose) in the shower area of the bathroom (to catch any leaks or spills) to attach a short hose to my portable black tank wand. I use a sanitary wipe to clean and cover the wand on the way out.
