Fifth wheel towing with F250

I'm thinking of upgrading to a couple's trailer now that the kids have all flown from the nest. Knowing I don't want a large fifth wheel, looking to stay under 35 foot/12,000 lbs. Tow vehicle is 2015 F250 Super Duty. Specs: SRW, 4x4, 3.55 Axle, Crew Cab. Ford rates the truck at 15,900 lbs max trailer for GN or fiver.

Looking at 2017 Open Range LF318RLS. Specs:
UVW 7,895
Hitch Weight: 1,510
GVWR 9,995
Length overall 33' 10"

Assuming just the wife, the dog (26 lb cocker) and I going on trips, would this be a good combo? Is anyone running similar weights and if so, what has your towing experience been?

Same as a 350 if it has the heavy spring package or timbrens/bags.

It's not possible to experience sway with a properly hitched 5th wheel, which means between the rear wheels of the truck.

If you hitch it on your tailgate, all bets are off.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

I have a 2016 F250 diesel and am pulling a BigHorn 38'. Have gone from Tennessee to Montana with no problems. Specs on this year f250 are almost identical with F350. This set up tows like a dream especially when compared with my last 35' travel trailer. Experienced 50+ mph winds the other day, and while unit was buffeted some, there was no sway and I felt completely in control of it. I did put Timbrens on rear suspension at recommendation of dealer and although I had no experience without them, they work great.

the only problem with the F250 is that they tend to squat pretty quickly. You may have to add bags or add the overload springs if your F250 didnt come with the camper package.

I was going to say he had a diesel... as the Gas 6.2L has 3:73 or 4:30... that is it.

You should have NO problem..

I have a 2012 6.2L .. and have 2,000 in the bed and trailer is over 9,000... ON 3:73 GAS. with 2 wheel drive I have 17,000 total weight. that is Scaled weight.

I tow a 31' fiver with about the same weights with a Dodge 2500, Hemi. Tows like a boat behind the truck

X2/Ditto! :B

That 5er could be pulled with a lot of 150/1500's.

You don't state if the F250 is gas or diesel. If gas, the 3.55's could be an issue in the hills.

Sorry I forgot to mention, 6.7L Power Stroke.

Thanks for the confirmation. I really don't want to tow a 36 foot TT anymore. Figure might as well get something we'd like and use. With occasional room for the grand babies once in a while.
