Funny stuff happens

We all have funny stuff happen to us as we travel. we'd like to hear your tales of stuff that happened to you.

I'll start.
We were parked At the Antietam battle ground memorial, waiting for the rest of the family to return, when a strange lady boarded our coach, looked around a second and said "Oh not my bus" With out skipping a beat our grand daughter says "Nope, it's grandpa's " The Lady simply backed down the stairs closed the door. leaving us with our mouths open and wondering what just happened. 🙂

A couple of decades ago, I was part of a group that regularly went weekend camping together. One weekend we decided to try a small campground we had never been to before. After we had all got settled in and were assembled around the campfire, the lady from the office showed up to see if the anyone had any problems. Then she asked who had the big unit. With the 32 ft TT, one of the guys, stifling a laugh, spoke up to let her know that he had the biggest unit in the group. All the guys were chuckling while the ladies were getting embarrassed. She just wanted to make sure that he didn't have any trouble getting it in. He assured her that sometimes he just needed to take a little extra time. She had this puzzled look on her face as she walked away, wondering what the fuss was all about.

35 years ago, I took my 5 y.o. twins on our first farther daughter camping trip in my new Northern Light truck camper. We waited in line at Haynes Point campground. We were in luck 2 spots left, one on the beach and one inland tucked between the trees,and we were 2nd in line. The first car in line was a couple that were tenting, the park ranger advised them that there was a storm moving in late that afternoon and they should take the sheltered site. Quite rudely the guy told the ranger to mind his own business and give him the beach site, as he was an experienced tenter and didn't need to be advised on what to do. We three in our TC got the sheltered site, enjoyed an early afternoon swim and then watched the weather roll in. It turned nasty in a hurry, lightning, thunder, blowing winds and pounding rain coming down sideways. We really enjoyed the experienced tenter standing outside holding onto his tent for dear life as the weather was trying to blow it out into the lake. Shortly after that they packed up and left.

When we pulled into our site a neighboring camper saw our out of state plates and thought we must have been driving all day. He comes over and says, you guys must be tired and I'm going to town anyways so come with me and I'll buy diner! (about 30 miles round trip). He went on to say his wife won't be there for another week and was lonely for company. He would only let us pay for dessert and the tip.It was a nice place too.

Not all that funny perhaps but, a nice little tidbit about nice folks you meet.

Went camping with the in-laws who didn't like me,we were in a state campground in Indiana they were from California, I noticed clouds moving in and asked fil if he wanted help taking his awning down he said no it would be alright, I noticed the clouds getting darker and a little rain asked again and got the same answers, then the sky turned green asked again and was told the awning could handle it,when the wind picked up and blew the awning of the camper across the road up and over the top of the camper and the rain started beating down fil ran out to start taking the awning down mil asked if I was going to help I said no it'll be alright.

I shoot insect photography and had just settled down on the ground to get a shot of one when I heard someone crashing through the brush yelling Sir, you can't use that, SIR. It was a sheriffs deputy that thought my camera with its flash and mono pod were a chainsaw, there was a fire ban at the time. Me ducking down to get a shot must have seemed like I was hiding it from him. We both had a good laugh and a nice chat.

We use to park our moHo in our front yard. Some neighbors down the street had company that arrived in a class C for Christmas. The afternoon before Christmas, I was walking thru the foyer towards my kitchen when my front door opened nd a very nice looking elderly man walked in, took off his Hat and introduced himself. he Looked past me into our living room and ask if Patsy was around. I said I didn't know Patsy. He looked confused and ask, isn't this Patsy's house. I said , no, sorry and then we figured out he was supposed to be in the house down the street with the class C.

We had this same thing happen to us at the KOA in Boone. The husband arrived early and setup his 5th wheel sunset trail in the row next to us. The wife got there after dark and walked right in our Sunset Trail travel trailer. She was in for a shock when 3 dogs greeted her at the door.

Staying at Wilderness State Park in northern MI. Went for an early morning beach walk after a night of rain showers, and got to watch the guy on the next site, who had failed to set his awning on an angle, dump 30 or so gallons of water on his head by dropping the awning arm while standing right next to the thing. I tried not to laugh, but it didn't work. He didn't see the humor, maybe because it was chilly and windy that morning... Probably the funniest thing I've seen in a campground.

Next best was watching a raccoon in broad daylight, waddle up to a tent while the occupants were away, look both ways, unzip the door flap with his clever little hands, and disappear inside. Always leave your zipper pulls at the top of the door....

We backed into our site and fell through the septic tank.

We were volunteering on a ranch in Oregon and years ago a caretaker of this 10,000 acre ranch had a mobile home on that site. The rancher who directed us where to park was unaware that there was a septic system there. The left rear of the motorhome dropped in. It took two days of ranch hands building a ramp under us so we could drive out. In the meantime, we slept in a very uncomfortable heavily-slanted position thinking we could fall deeper at any time. Amazingly, nothing was damaged on the motorhome.

It was funny..... afterward!

I once pointed out to a fellow camper that the safety pin was out of their fire extinguisher. he thought the second handle must be compressed to replace it. thank goodness it was a CO2 extinguisher

Here's one from my dad, who passed away in 2014. We learned to love camping from him.

Once he retired, he and mom got a Class C, a utility trailer with a WOOD PLANK floor (this will be important later), and a honda goldwing to put in the trailer.

They traveled all over. Dad loved to pick up old firewood from other campsites after campers left, so he would not have to buy any. One day, he picked up firewood, put in the trailer, and off they go. Soon, a deputy sheriff stops him, and they proceed to put out a huge fire in the trailer. Apparently, he admitted to picking up firewood that still had a SMALL smolder to it, and of course the wind made fire, and well, Dad lost the trailer and the goldwing.

Loved Dad, but never let him live that one down! That was some expensive free firewood.

While grocery shopping, my friend's mother parked AND LOCKED her Ford station wagon. She went in to shop. When she came out, someone was sitting in her Ford wagon with their key in the ignition, but the ignition wouldn't turn. The friend's mother opens the door and both she and the other woman were very surprised. The other woman had the same model and color of Ford wagon and her key fit the door, but wouldn't start the car.

I remember that happening to my mother when I was about 10. We had a '59 Ford and she came out of the grocery store and jumped into the car and her key wouldn't fit. She started looking around and noticed some stuff inside the car that didn't belong to us. We quietly got out of the car and went looking for ours.

We were tent camping in California and we were listening to howling wolves getting closer and closer. Eventually they were right outside the tent and were sniffing at the tent a few inches from our heads. The rangers came by and ran them off. My ex refused to go tent camping again after that and we bought our first TT.
