Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Another member suggested a new forum section with new products but it doesn't look like it will be feasible. So I thought I would post this here under General RVing Issues. If enough people post (even if you have mentioned it before in another post) we can keep it near the top?

Do you have a handy hint, a new product or an old product that makes your RVing or Camping much better?

(Sorry, no commercial advertising allowed)

I'll start:

Someone in the Camping Van posted a reference to using a Super-Chamois to wipe down their shower. I have been using an icky old thick sponge and I like the chamois idea so much more.

Now I want to hear what works for you

Honestly for the cost of a good closed cell foam, the price isn't out of line. We constantly have kids running around camp, it was an irrational fear that I had that one of them was going to ring their bell on the king pin. Maybe it was a solution in search of a problem, but I feel better with it installed. ๐Ÿ™‚

I use this product "The Reach & Clean wand by Invisible Glass". It makes wiping down the interior window condensation (in the morning) a breeze! Especially in the bedroom.

We put a "tap light" right over the bed so that if you need to get up in the night you just tap it on rather then stumbling around trying to find the right light switch. It's not very bright either.. it's just right.

Lots of good, cheap options - like a foam drink holder, etc.

Or expensive ones: $45 or so:

Our Montana fifth wheel bedroom slide has really sharp corners. The outside edge could catch us going around the corner, the other could nail hubby when he is connecting the black water hose. Simple solution: pipe insulation foam. It has stayed on through some really high winds here at the house too!

If you cut a little triangle out of the corner, you can actually made the bend and run the insulation up the edge of the slide to tidy up a little.

I love my two portable induction burners. They came with two frying pans, one with a lid that will also fit the big pot that came with them. I did buy a small saucepan. Suits us and saves on propane.

Have an induction cooktop in the S&B house, and DW loves it! She won't go back. Won't convert the camper because we boondock a lot so we cook with propane.

Due sensitivity to hydrocarbon fumes by wife, converted gas stove and oven to all electric. Oven to combination micro/broler/oven and the stove top to a cutting board and induction cooking units. You do need magnetic cookware with a thick enough base to use this system.

Using portable units, it adds great flexibility as to location of cooking. I can now cook at the old stove location, on the counter on the other side or outside or wherever there is 110 current.

I've got one and use it outside. Obviously, you need shorepower or one heck of a battery bank, but I have the room to bring it along so I use their electricity instead of my propane. I prefer to cook outside when I can.

You do need cookware that will work like cast iron or other magnetic metal so if need to buy cookware to make this work, I wouldn't bother.

Smallish electric toaster oven broiler
Found out yesterday that DW's new toaster oven perfect fit for top of tool box (4 posts up), and the cord easily reaches the washer/dryer outlet.
Just in case, it's got real sticky feet but still throw a bungie over it to hold in place when traveling.
