If you hook up to a trailer that is not yours even to move it you can be charged with a crime, and would be liable for any damage to it. The offending trailer can only be on street for 72 hours without being moved. Police can tag it and then cite and tow 72 hours later. When I park my trailer in front of my house I always block the front with one of my vehicles. This has happened to me but I was able to find other owner and resolved problem. These are the rules for my local area.
