No problem switching between a large tank and a small one. I usually run my grill off a large tank and carry a couple of small green tanks in case I run out of gas in the large tank. I have switched a couple of times without a problem.

Thank you and all the others

OK, I got the hose. How about pressure regulation? Is the pressure from the larger tank a problem?

Thanks for all the help

The pressure from a big tank is the same as from a little tankโ€”namely, the vapor pressure of the propane. (Technically speaking, that's only true so assuming the temperature of the propane is the same. A small tank will cool down more quickly as the propane vaporizes, and will thus have a little lower pressure as time goes on than the larger tank, but that's of no practical consequence here. It does matter when trying to run a large appliance from a small tank.)

While you are at it, you might consider an 11 pound tank. Same height but smaller diameter. It fits in places the 20# tank won't but is still refillable.

Or, the 5 pound (1 gallon) cylinder (the one I have); about the same diameter as a 20 pounder, but MUCH shorter!

Extend a stay will work provided you have an RV close by. All you need is a hose made specifically for this. Obviously Camping World has them but I have seen them elsewhere was well

It's called 'Extend-A-Stay'. We've always used a bigger propane tank. Less costly and more convenient.

You can purchase a hosed made specifically for that. Check Amazon and most RV supply stores.
