How to remove/prevent standing water at campsite???

Ok, our seasonal campsite has a low spot (approximately 20' x 10') that collects water after a good rain. Normally, it absorbs into the ground pretty quickly, however this year the soil is so saturated that the water has no where to go.

Since, it is the low spot (has high sides on all 4 sides) what can I do to minimize the pooling of water so I don't have to wade through ankle deep water when leaving my camper?

Gravel is not so good to walk on or camp on. I would use road base, sand or decomposed granite way before gravel.

I don't know anything about seasonal sites but it seems like since you don't own that property you shouldn't undertake a project of diverting water on your own. I'd contact the owner and see what he can do to help.

Build a French drain to a lower area. Cut a trench with a slight slope to the lower area. Put in 6" to 12" of gravel. Place some newspaper on top of the gravel to avoid it silting up. Cover with top soil. Your grass will grow back and the site will be self-draining.

Your RV does have wheels doesn't it?

Tell the owner, that he needs to put you in a spot that isn't flooded or you will drive on down the road.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I would rather not use gravel as we planted grass in that area and it took off real nicely. Might have to use more soil as filler and see if that helps.

Water runs downhill. Build a hill. I'd use 3/4 inch gravel.

Dont get govt involved...period.
We had high water one year in a private park they called a consulted with experts. Someone didn't like their recommendations and call county. County made us do eis study and all kinds of other stuff. End result was park bought back or allowed owners to trade lots or not pay dues until problem solved. Fast forward 3 years and everything back to normal. That was after 40,too dollars in eis study's and new road that was 25 feet from where flooded road.

get a load of 3/4 modified crushed stone... dump it, pack it, level it.

Where would you move the water if you had the ability? In most places, it is illegal to channel water from your property onto another person's if it creates a nuisance to them. While it would clearly not be illegal to move water from one campsite to another, it would sure not be neighborly to flood the guy next to you because you want dry feet. I also wouldn't be digging ditches without permission from the park management. Most would not take kindly to that action.
Have you talked to the park and asked for help? The best option would be to level the low spot so the water doesn't pool. If there is common area adjacent to you site, the park may allow you to pump or channel the water onto it. It may also be that there is no cure due to an exceedingly wet spell and you may just have to either change sites or live with it. There just isn't a one size fits all answer.

A small sump pump will move the water whenever you want it to. If it pools, flip it on and in 5 minutes the water is gone. Available at Home Depot, Lowes and almost all big box stores. HD has the best prices and biggest selection...Dennis

Dig a small trench to relieve the water - should work so long as you have lower ground nearby.
