Sept. 2016 issue of Trailer Life Magazine has a big article on Maxxis ST Tires (page 39). For ALL of their various size tires they post a maximum speed of 65 mile per hour. I get passed all the time by RV'ers going at least 70 MPH.....
Slow down and enjoy the trip....

Most often when I get blown off the road by someone towing, it's a toy hauler.

That was probably my wife...! she is religious about conforming to posted speed limits.. so if it's 30.. then she drives 30.. if it's 65 then she drives 65, if it's 75 then she drives 75 !!!!
thank the lord there are no 85 or higher posted limits..:E

I did tell her the tires are rated at 65.. even though they are LT's
but to no avail... sigh..

Oh but there are some stretches of I-15 in Utah and some in Wyoming with 85 mph speed limit or at least they were a few years ago

They were 80 MPH, not 85. The only place you can legally go 85 MPH is a few roads in Texas.

Just finishing a trip through 7 western states and if towing, the max. limit varies state to state from 55 to 80 mph, plus the posted speed limits are constantly going up and down like a yo-yo. I set the C/C at 65 mph and never go above 65 regardless except the occasional time like after cresting a hill and it picks up 1 or 2 mph for a few seconds. I refuse to go above 65. If anyone has to go around us, that's just the way it is on the roads. I subscribe to the wisdom of a retired tire engineer on his rvtiresafety.com blog about max. speed on ST tires.

Someone posted above that GY Marathons are rated 75 mph. They are rated 65 but according to GY can run up to 75 ONLY if you add another 10 psi to the tires. I don't think that means you can do that 100 percent of the time. Rims would need to be rated for the higher pressure too. We have Marathons and I will not run them above 65 even with added pressure.

Have seen many FWs and TTs go flying past us on the highways. For some reason didn't see any to the side with a tire failure on this trip, but we've found that you just don't see many RVs using freeways or most highways because they're mostly on the slower & less hectic scenic routes. Have seen them with tire failures though on secondary highways in the past.

Besides max. speed, what most don't know is to never tow under-inflated or tow overloaded if using ST tires

What I don't like is that when you buy a new TT or FW, nobody tells the buyer about the max. speed rating of ST tires, load rating or to maintain the correct psi. Not the dealer or RV manufacturer and there's no sticker on the exterior sidewall.

The annual family reunion trip is always a challenge, we are loaded heavy (taking extra things for whole family use), dry camping so full of water. 60mph speed limit with small towns along the way with 30mph speed limits. I tow near 60, even though I get better mileage running slower. On a two lane road, it gets dangerous when too many vehicles are stacked behind us, so I usually pull off in the town (just have to slow way down and run on wide shoulder a short distance, then back on road and up to speed. That way, I don't have the stupid trying to pass when it is not safe (lots of double yellow) and putting us at risk. On the freeway or 4 lane, I run whatever speed I want and they can go around me if they don't like it.

I usually do about the same.

This is very true. I tend to stay in the right lane and "keep up with traffic" in that lane. Most of the time Thats right around 65mph

Towing. Max speed 65 mph. Cruise control works great.

Car can be doing the speed limit or a couple of mph over and still get passed by RVers. Was doing 75 mph with the car and at passed by an SUV driver pulling a pop up trailer. Wondered what the speed rating was on those little tires.

68 to 72 is when traffic and weather permitting.

When going through city's if I want to run the center lanes I have to stay at the speed there running. If you drive to slow you get a bottle neck of traffic around you, too fast and you catch everyone.

My tires are rated for 65. Personally I am comfortable at 60-65 max. Its alot of weight for a TT. Its the journey not just the destination...
