My last Dodge Ram ever !

Last week, my TV truck, (2014 Dodge Ram 1500) mysteriously locked itself with the "fob" in it. Luckily we were in the drive way, so just got the second one out of the trailer.
Yesterday it started locking the truck every time I even put my finger on it without pushing the lock button.
I guessed that it must be time to replace the battery, but when I opened it up, a tiny eighth inch metal disc fell out. I found where the disk went, (under the lock button), but it would not stay when I tried to put it back.
Today I called a Dodge dealer to see about replacing it, and the cost for the "fob" is $180 and then there is another $120 for the programming it.

When I bought the truck that was the one thing I didn't like because it is so humongous compared to a simple key.

I can well afford the cost, but the principal of the idiotic contraption is what burns me more then anything

I have always have either a Ford or Chevy and needless to say this will be my last Dodge

Good luck to you folks that have this same "Fob"

I love the Sync system - have it in both vehicles. And no nav in either one. The Edge is 6 years old and no problems with the key, and the F-150 has virtually the same key except that it can be folded like a jackknife, so I don't anticipate any issues.

No FOB or key needed to get into your truck.

Yep... love the combo lock. My 2016 F-150 and the wife's 2010 Edge both have that.

So, in trying to be objective, I have a 2013 RAM 1500 Longhorn and a 2013 Taurus SHO. Both are equipped similarly and have the keyless entry, touchscreen, NAV. First of all, love the combo on the door. But that is where it ends. The Ford fob is quirky, not as durable as the RAM (or Dodge products) and to get a Ford you have to put up with the MySync radio and NAV.

Had to replace the fob already on the Ford. RAM is much easier to use, nicer fob, and the U-Connect is so much nicer than the MySync.

Just being objective. I own a Ford, RAM, Jeep and a '69 Chevelle. The Chevelle has no such fobs, and I like it best!

Lol 4 pages and I'll be the first to state the obvious.....and id say this pretty much regardless of brand.
A defective, or worn out, or low battery dinky accessory that you somehow destroyed when taking it apart is a valid reason to "never buy that brand of vehicle again?"

Some people crack me up.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Before you take someone to task, you might want to read their post.
It is obvious that you ether can't understand what the OP wrote or just felt you had to throw a snide comment in.

Guy.

I was thinking the same thing. Drive by comment without acutally reading the post. I don't even know what the comment "Original post and not heard from since!" means. They are hardly new here and with the I am smarter than you comments it is no wonder they did not respond.

Sooooo what I'm understanding is I can replace the FOB receptacle with a regular key receptacle? Sounds too good to be true. I hate that FOB! ๐Ÿ˜ž

Do you have the push button start or do you have to actually put a key in? I have had a bunch of dodges. My 2013 longhorn had a push start. You keep the fob in your pocket. Open up the door by putting you hand in the handle and using a button to start the truck. If this is what you have you can switch out the push button to a key start. Not sure why you would want to. Just program the truck so the door do not lock automatically.

Oh how I miss the days that when you lost the key you just added a toggle switch and a push button.

I never had to do it but, some of my buddies did. You could hide the switch under the dash and lock the doors to stop theft. Plenty good enough .

When I got my 2011 F-150 last year I had a 3rd key with the electric **** built in made at the dealer right away. Because I had the other two keys it was a easy job. The key was kinda expensive but, now I have one in the truck, one at home, and one hidden in the truck. I also have a standard door key hidden under the truck in case I lock the key in the truck.

I was told when we bought our car with a push button start to change the batteries once a year and you will never have a problem. That is what we do and we have never had a problem. I was leery of the concept at first but have come to love the push button start.

My wife's 2013 ford will not lock with the fob inside the car. Inside the console there is a place you can plug in a new fob and "copy" a fob you have so there is no charge to have it programmed.

Inside the car, Or in the switch? Both of my Fords, one a 2014, and the other a 2013, will lock with the keys / fobs, in the vehicle, but not in the switch. In fact, I lock the keys in the truck on purpose so I don't have to carry the keys. Of course, they both have keyless entry. Another wonderful feature of Fords. Just punch in the code, and you are in.

I will never own another vehicle with a mickey mouse method like Ram's to start it.

Not sure what your criteria is for buying a vehicle, but when I buy one, I want one that doesn't leave me stranded when I only have 22,000 miles on it.

This is why we order our vehicles so we only buy the options we want. Worth the 6 week build/delivery wait for us.
