We are about to buy a,"new to us",used 5th wheel. I need to set up new insurance for this.
Need recommendations for getting a new policy. I WILL NOT consider anything from Progressive, or from Good Sam.
What are you folks using. Thanks.

We also have Nationwide. RV-specific full replacement coverage as required by our lender.

No Progressive, because Progressive tried to rip me off for almost $3000.00 on some commercial truck insurance I canceled with them. Their call center people lied to try and back up the company's claim. The lies did not work, I never paid them a penny.

^This is a valid point, however, I'll point out that pretty much ALL insurance companies operate the same, IMO and you're as likely to have issues with any of them as progressive.
I've had a similar problem with Allstate in the past, they effectively cancelled my existing homeowners ins with another company when I signed with Allstate for the vehicles but NOT homeowner policy.
Same with State Farm. They cancelled a person who hit my vehicle with theirs. The other party had a new car literally 2 days old. Signed with SF and sent the check. She was returned the un cashed check following the accident along with a notice that her policy had no been activated (back dated), to get out of the claim.
Heck I even had Americn Family try to backcharge us when we changed our existing policy and they realized they had us in the wrong fire protection class (cheaper insurance). Sure the rates will go up going forward, but in arrears?? Cmon.

pinchols, Can't USAA provide for all your RV needs?

Quite some time ago USAA quit directly insuring RVs. They established a relationship with Progressive and now pass-through their USAA customers to Progressive for insuring their RVs.

I think I may have some general ERS coverage through Progressive and/or USAA automatically included, but if I do have it I have never used it. I wanted an ERS service for our RV that was offered by "RV Emergency Road Service experts", as having outstanding ERS for our RV was of highest priority. I went ahead and dropped AAA to sign up with Coach-Net and got their premium plan - which also covers all of our other vehicles.

Huh ...... why not? :h

We have our house and other vehicles insured through about the best U.S. insurance company - USAA.

USAA doesn't insure RV's, so they partnered with Progressive to handle RVs. I figure that if USAA is hooked up with Progressive, then Progressive must be pretty much top drawer for RVs.

My experiences with USAA for nearly 50 years have been outstanding. We use Coach-Net for ERS for all of our vehicles including the RV ... and they have been outstanding too.

For our other miscellaneous insurance needs on RV trips, we are enrolled in Good Sam's TravelAssist.

KPetrick, I have heard a lot of stories on various forums that say Good Sam is pretty quick to cancel or raise rates. It is said that Good Sam insurance is not much better than the Good Sam roadside assistance, which is generally reported to be terrible. I MAY consider Good Sam again and give them a call. I want to see what else is available and at what rates? If I call Good Sam, I will tell them not to even think about quoting me a policy with those lying thieves at Progressive.
Thanks
I have this insurance - it's through National General Insurance, and I've been happy with it. If you Google Good Sam Insurance, you will see that. Canceled my old policy on my previous travel trailer and got a quote on our new fifth wheel. Got several comparison quotes from various companies including Progressive, and USAA, including the dealerships provider. None beat it. I've never had an issue with them raising rates or canceling - I had a rate increase once in 5 years - the last one I owned the Coleman TT.

I also have GS roadside assistance. Used it once and was pleased.

When you are checking Ins. Co's make sure they would insure throughout the U.S totally, as well as Canada and Mexico. We have Allstate homeowners and car Ins. on 1 property but they refused to insure on another home and boat because they are in the Mtns. so went with Foremost which is under the Farmers Ins. umbrella.

Thanks Mowingman,

I am trying to make sure that people understand that Good Sam is not the carrier, we are the agent. We place business with one of 4 companies that have good RV coverage. It does happen that one carrier might take large rate increases within a particular state or type of risk. We can requote them with a different carrier to see if we can save them money. We have options since we understand that people sometimes have experiences with a certain company/carrier in the past that was less than positive. There are less carriers offering RV coverage now that Blue Sky has gone out of business and National Interstate has gotten out of the RV insurance business.

A couple things to ask your agent if you place it on your auto policy. Are permanent attachments like awnings covered at replacement cost or a depreciated value? Progressive states the claim most often turned in on RV's are for damage to awnings. Are person property items within the RV covered under the auto policy or the home policy? If you have a loss that damages the RV and personal property inside do you have to turn in a claim on the auto policy and the home policy and have two deductibles to pay? What happens if the RV is parked at the RV park and someone trips and falls getting out of it and is injured? Is this covered by auto or home? How many home claims until my home policy gets cancelled?
