No eclipse traffic nightmare for us

No traffic jams for us, except the known road construction on I90 at North Bend. From Ellensburg to Maupin we hardly saw any traffic. We paid regular price for the City of Maupin campground. Weather forecast is clear skies tomorrow.

I went to the National Homestead Museum in Nebraska. Though partly cloudy the sun would break through the clouds now and then. Including during totality (yea). I had a couple of 14 year old boys with me that work for us on the farm and they thanked me greatly for taking them. I also took them to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. A great place, I recommend it. We had fun both days.

For the eclipse We parked at the fairgrounds in town and took a bus to the event. The problem began when everyone went to get on the buses to leave and the whole thing turned into the greatest cluster (you know what) ever in the history of events. There was no leadership, no one knew what was going on, no one knew where to stand, no one knew what bus to get on. (After 2 hours someone finally came up with the idea to put signs on the buses saying what parking place they were going to). We were only 4 miles from town and people stated walking along side of the road to get back to their cars. They only had 4 state troopers there taking care of things for what must have been 70000 to 80000 people. And the troopers were incompetent.

Nebraska dropped the ball on this one. They were advertising and telling people to come but, they had no idea of how to get them back to their cars after the show. What a mess. Thank got it was cool or people would have been falling over waiting in line for the buses. Come to think if it, they didn't have much of a first aid station either. If I was good at writing and if I had the time I would send a e-mail to the governor of Nebraska and complain. I have nothing against the people of that state but, they seem to have no leadership.

They have signs all along our Interstates not to park on the shoulders or ramps for the eclipse. I24 from Monteagle to Nashville, in Franklin and Coffee counties especially and up I 75 from Chattanooga to past Cleveland.
Nashville west and east on I40 and north and south on I65.
I must be about 40 miles fro the exact line of the crossing. Should be pretty good view.
Was going to do some mowing. Maybe it can wait and I will go to the top of the mountain and see if the world is going to freeze up. Maybe take a coat. ๐Ÿ™‚
I have prescription very dark aviator glasses from Nam. About as dark as a welding helmet. Recon they will be safe?

I've got a perfect spot for the eclipse with near maximum totality.

Though I'm talking about the 2024 April eclipse and the friend's home where I store my rig in Texas when we want to go somewhere without the RV.

This year I'll be north of the totality.

It's nice out there, but you will not be in the "total eclipse." area. You will need to go a few miles south on 197.

Enjoy, KEN
