we were in Canada and stayed in some government camp grounds with no hook ups. it seemed like everybody had a generator and used them. I said to my neighbor that i'll probably leave early and be starting my generator early to make coffee for the wife and run her hair curling tools. he laughed and said i'll be gone before you.

Rocky Mountain National Park. In Moraine Park CG, generators are prohibited in Loop D, which is primarily for tent camping. In Glacier Basin CG, generators are prohibited in Loop C.

Do you mean "no generator" sections or no "generator sections?" In other words, parks that have sections where generators are not permitted, or parks that do not permit generators anywhere?

There certainly are examples of both; most parks that have electric hookups at all the sites do not permit generator usage, for instance (and even if they do, it's not a common occurrence). Letchworth State Park in New York has electricity at all the campsites, for just one example. No generator loops are also not all that uncommon, though sometimes they may be limited to tent only sites.
