pet fees?

Hello all. Saw something tonight that I haven't seen before. I was looking at campgrounds in Holland mi. Like to make a trip there next spring. Not necessarily during the tulip festival but while they are still bloomed. Anyways I read the fee schedule and it wasn't terrible. Then I saw a pet fee of 3$ a pet. That's $9 for us and it is enough of a difference to look at other places. My question is ...this common at campgrounds? We are newbies. This was our second season as rv ers.

Yep. And if enough people follow your lead, soon the pet fee will be gone.....along with the park's policy of allowing pets.

And that is why I don't fly anymore or stay at campgrounds that charge a pet fee. Too many non fee alternatives.

If they won't waive the extra person fee for my mentally disabled sister in law, that lives with us, I am gone. She does not step foot out of the trailer for weeks!

Being a pet owner, I view this in different ways. First of all, I don't mind a pet fee, but the park needs to be priced otherwise to meet the amenities. Just like when the State of Virginia was charging $5/pet and their fees for a start park already was higher than other states. Plus you could get a site elsewhere at a private opark with more amenities for the same price or less.

On the other hand, I don't care too much for those who bring numerous dogs and set up fences and etc outside. It would be different if they didn't yap all day long or everytime they see another dog or a person walks by. But thats just my opinion.

Like "shop" supplies when you get an oil change.

Pet fees are common in motels but we don't stay in them.

We have not seen pet fees much in the areas we travel - western states. Not in rv parks.

They should also have fees for children and very, very high ones if they use the pool or, God help me, the hot tub (spa). Those chemicals are very, very expensive.

First,we camp alot at Pa state parks and wasn't aware about paying more for pet sites.And it depends on the park where you can walk it.Some campgrounds like Locust Lake allow you to walk your dog on the paved trail around the lake.The only restriction is don't take dog into non pet loops.At Pine Grove Furnace you can walk dog down road and walk dog through day area. In Va,they tack a fee onto your site charge.But we were told you don't pay fee when you make a reservation.Some parks hit you with the fee while others don't.Most COE and Forest Service Campgrounds do not charge extra for pets so we tend to prefer them.

I would not mind a fee if they had something for the dog. We were in Holland last year for the festival and did not have a fee. In fact we have never been asked for a fee for the dog. Have been at parks that limit the number of pets or have even bypassed parks that forbid pets.

It's their park and their rules so it's not a problem. It is also my choice of where we stay so we are even.

yes pet fees are being more common in cgs. along with the charge of bringing a golf cart is becoming more common in cgs. alot of cgs say you can bring your golf cart for free, now a charge is being applied by cgs more often that I have seen.

anything that 'takes' up space in their cg, a fee can be applied 😞

We take two dogs with us everywhere. I don't mind paying the fee at all. In my experience, I have noticed that the better-maintained campgrounds are the ones that charge. They usually also have a dog run/area.

That is a first that I've seen! I'm thinking about my 120 pound Great Pyrenees that travels with us. A true gentle giant. No way to carry that boy in my arms. And yes, I pick up after him. Amazing to hear about some of the rules out there.

Only twice have I been asked for a pet fee. I too got a similar response to my question and explained the cost of building and maintaining the dog area.

I then asked how much the 'litter fee' and 'child fee' was because I see people littering and children abusing things plus the cost of building and maintaining the playground.

Both times they smiled and waived the fee.
