RV Parks w/older RV restrictions

I've just purchased a 1990 Class A Bounder. When I tried to make reservations in a couple of parks (Las Vegas and Flagstaff) I was informed that my RV is too old. I'm sure the owners of the parks have their reasons, but am I going to have this problem across the country?

Is it better to go to national parks and campgrounds?

Sort of confused because I'm old and get confused easy.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Maybe there are those who would not want to camp near my rig because of it's looks and that is fine. Those people could benefit if they use the Good Sam campground search and it had a option to find the campgrounds who use this rule as a excuse. So having a search selection for age restriction would benefit all. That way, if one wanted to search the Good Sam discount parks or any other parks Good Sam knows about in a area, one could use the option and know about this restriction in advance. A person with a older RV would not waste time going into the park office and being told they can not stay. Part of the camping fun for some people is in the planning or spontaneity. Having a good search engine with the right selection options when using online tools would really make the experience more pleasant. If you do belong to the Good Sam Club, letting them know you would like this option added would benefit all and maybe even you.

I'm glad they have a 10 year rule; I wouldn't want to camp there anyway.

Never been asked for registration. Count back 9 years and give that as the model year. The policy is so they can prevent trashy looking rigs. I know of at least one high end resort in Nevada that has dropped the policy as it was costing them business. If the high prices don't scare them off and the rig isn't leaking all over the driveway, it's in.

They have to draw a line somewhere, so that they can enforce it if need be. The good part of being a benevolent dictator is that you don't have to enforce your own rules if you don't see the need.

I think the 10 yr. restriction offends so many because it seems to stereotype older RV's and their owners as "less than desirable." I understand they own their business, and can make their rules. But maybe instead of an arbitrary number it would be more acceptable for campgrounds/resorts to actually say what they do not want in their campground. We have seen some absolutely beautiful vintage RV's - if you want to see which RV's get the most positive attention, watch the draw to a vintage RV.

We haven't run into this and we have a 14 yr old motorhome. We don't make reservations though. We drive up and they have never even asked the age of our rig. If it looks nice and well kept they would probably not enforce the rule. Maybe you will only have a problem if reserving.

Old RVs and the Campground search on Good Sam.

I have emailed the Good Sam Club about adding a RV age restriction option to the campground search function on the club website. Would be useful to exclude the parks with age restrictions. I have had suggestions to call and verify with the park. With that kind of thinking, might as well tell all the campgrounds to delete their online website reservation systems since people would have to call anyway. The whole purpose of a search listing is to find campgrounds one can stay in. Seems the people with new RVs that do not want a old one next to them would benefit as well. There are several nice search options, but not one for RV age restrictions. I would appreciate anyone else who would find such a option useful letting the Good Sam Club know. They will not work on it for just a couple of people. Thanks

I saw a resort type campground in Colorado that had a rule that only motorhomes were allowed in. I don't recall seeing an age restriction but I didn't consider that discrimination. His business, his rules.

I fully agree that it is mostly the "resorts" that have these rules. We are 11 this year and so far have never been refused. In fact we've never been to a park that had an age restriction. I know they are out there. The best advice is to call ahead. But if your rig is in great shape even if it is older than 10 most parks won't turn you away.

All you have to do is make a copy of the title to your MH. Each yr. (white out) the model yr. and move it up 1 yr. You will keep a 9 yr. old unit and you will "show those discriminators". :S

Or have an Airstream. Tell them it's a 1972, a 1982, a 1992, a 2002, or a 2012...could most of them tell without looking at the paperwork?

As long as they apply the rule equally, a business owner has the right to reuse service to anyone.

You never did say how it was good logic and business sense or why there is a reason for this 10 year limit????

On a side note, there was a man that built a business model on never turning anybody down and giving a cheap price to everybody. I heard he drove around in some POC Ford truck for years. Here is his truck.
