RVs over 10 years old are valueless

I have a 15 year old 5th wheel in perfect condition, but I am no longer allowed in RV parks - the same parks which allowed me in last year. They're all citing "the 10 year rule." Therefore, this 5th wheel serves no purpose anymore as I cannot travel with it. I am done RVing. Rant off.

RV Park here doesn’t care what they look like, they have the 10 rule. You show em your registration or you don’t get in.

We started raving last year and have only been to the same place twice so far. We usually stay at KOA’s but not always. I have seen on the internet a few places with a 10 year rule but they always say to send pics and they might ok your rig anyway.

We have always kept our vehicles in top condition. But we have also kept each one over 10 years. It has never been a problem for us, we have never been asked the age of our camper. Granted we prefer to stay at State and National Parks and have less than no interest in staying at Resorts. Please do not let this type of thing end your traveling and making memories with your travels.

About 15 years ago I was asked at a PA state park what year our then 1986 Toyota based Dolphin Class C was. At first I was a bit concerned about an age rule, but it turned out the check-in clerk's sister had a similar RV and he just wondered if they were the same year. Haven't been asked since...

If the park has a rule like that it would not be the type of place I would want to stay at anyway. I use public parks and have never been asked.

While I don't agree with such a rule, I understand the reason. Trying to keep the real junk with home ACs hanging out the RV's windows out. They would be much further ahead saying anything over 10 must be OK's by management before a site is assigned, because you can have a 20 year old rig that looks brand new, while someone else can destroy a brand new unit and turn it into trash in a year or two.

While I applaud your presumed ABSOLUTE honesty with everything in your life, I feel, that is not only very idealistic, but that has also been a detriment to you and your family both, maybe un-knowingly.

I consider myself a generally honest and ethical person, but circumventing something that is unfair, unethical or maybe an outright lie itself, by lying is perfectly acceptable. Fight fire with fire!

White lies aren't a gateway drug to greater things. They could be I suppose, but that would be like saying drinking a beer is a surefire path to alcoholism. So with your take on lying, I hope you don't drink ANY beer!

No need to lie, those parks never ask as they have no such rules, obviously the places that do, don't need you or your 50 year old money, since your 5'er has wheels, take it down the road to a place with no such rule, and welcomes your old money.

As noted the rule exists to permit facilities to turn away the junkers much like the signs often seen in businesses stating "We reserve the right to refuse service". The saddest thing about this thread is that were have already had half a dozen posters suggest or outright state that they just lie... :S

Sorry folks but integrity is like virginity... once it is gone it never returns. If you lie over such a trivial matter it makes me cringe to think how you you live your life day to day. Years ago when I was going to college one of my professors brought in a guest lecturer to speak to us about truth, integrity, and honor, as I recall he was a retired judge. He went on for nearly an hour hammering in his basic premise that in all things truth is paramount.

As he began to wrap up his talk he finished with: In conclusion you must always remember that it is NEVER, ever acceptable to lie... unless someone asks you to help them move. :E

If the rig is in decent shape the ten year rule is something simply not worth sweating over. Sort of like the 'no alcohol' rule. It is there for the abusers. The having a few at the campsite, no problem.

We have a 20 year old motor home and have never been refused, even when they had the ten year rule.
It is in great shape.

I've been asked twice for my 1997 rv age. The first one was a Branson, MO rv parking lot. I told him it was 14 years old...he looks out the big front window at the trailer and keeps writing info down. No problem.
The last time was last summer in a SLC rv parking lot. Same scenario. He looks out the window and was a nice looking unit. Its been trailer shed kept since 2000.

We don't stay in many rv parking lots but some times its the closest/handy on long trips.
