RVs over 10 years old are valueless

I have a 15 year old 5th wheel in perfect condition, but I am no longer allowed in RV parks - the same parks which allowed me in last year. They're all citing "the 10 year rule." Therefore, this 5th wheel serves no purpose anymore as I cannot travel with it. I am done RVing. Rant off.

Not all campgrounds have the same rules, and for those who make them, maybe it's worth having a conversation explaining your loyalty with them. To date, at least.

I stayed at a nice county park near Wenatchee this summer that had a 20 year old rule. My 2001 Mobile Scout was just over but it is clean and no problem. Manager said they were "just making sure the place didn't turn into Seattle".

Wow, and to think my RV was 12 years old when I bought it! I guess they saw me coming, since it was basically "valueless"!

That is purely age discrimination. Threaten to sue them on that ground.

When did they ratify the "RV age discrimination" amendment to the constitution?

Our Class C is 14 years old. The best way to avoid the 10 year rule that we have found is to steer clear of any place that they call a "RESORT". There are too many Federal Parks, State Parks, Military Parks and RV Campgrounds to choose from. Get out and enjoy your travels.

My TT is a 1993 . I am just a weekend camper that stays close to home. I've used this TT almost every weekend in the summer for the last 10 years. It's been through 2 hail storms and has lots of dimples. I do keep it clean and I keep any rust that shows up painted right away. I imagine that it would not be allowed at most of the places many of you frequent and some people would look down their nose at it.

To heck with them. It's paid for.

I stay at local public parks. Though it is getting difficult to get into them.

I would love to get a Newer one. (I can afford it) But, I can't find one within 500 miles of me that would work as well for me as the one I have now. The prices right now are just really crazy for them too.

I will be using the one I have for one more year.

DH and I have a 2006 Class A - we keep it in very presentable condition - would NEVER claim it wasn't over 10 years old - can tell simply by its design! Don't think a Georgie Boy Pursuit has been produced since maybe 2008? Anyway. Most of the CGs we have come across with a "10 year" rule have been priced beyond our willingness to pay! We like the "bells and whistles" of a "Resort", but can easily do without. No point or reason to argue - we just go somewhere else! Love state parks when a site is available, but also very willing to use a privately owned park. One thing we have learned inover 45 years of RVing - flexibility is the key!

Our 2003 TT passed the 10 year old mark awhile ago. We've never been asked its age. We've never been asked for its "registration" - meaning the actual paperwork that shows its year. We get asked for its license plate number all the time.

Has anyone ever posted in these forums that they've been turned away after arriving at a campground due to the age of their camper? I know people post about the rules, and people post about someone they heard about getting refused, but I don't remember anyone here with personal experience about it.

I wash my camper once every few years (lol! I do keep it halfway decent looking) and don't worry about it.

Never been asked , but if I were to be asked that my rv is to old , iโ€™d tell them to stick it where the sun donโ€™t shine.

If I owned an RV park I would let any year rig in.

It seems like the seniors are always complaining and causing problems so I would limit my campground to the 65 and under crowd. That way I could keep out all of those senior complainer Darrin's and Karen's. You know how they are!

Yep, that's how I'd do it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Basically the same for me years ago with a travel trailer , it was in California . Only time I was ever asked how old my trailer was ,and I told them. We had no reservation there , I was sitting out in front of the office seeing if they had a site for the night, she looked at the trailer ,and she said well that looks new , and I was okay . She proceeded to tell why the 10 year rule ,was because of some of the junk some wanted to pull into their RV park .

These types of rules are usually cooked up by so called RV Resorts. We used to enjoy staying at these types of places as well, our favorite being Hilton Head Harbor - at least until last year when they changed their rules to this, quoted directly from their web site:

Hilton Head Harbor Policy wrote:
We accept bumper pull travel trailers, 5th wheel travel trailers, hybrid campers and motor coaches. We cannot accept park models, destination trailers or tents or travel trailers that exceed our size limits.

Due to our POA covenants, we do not accept pull behind travel trailers with slides or 5th wheel travel trailers with slides and they cannot exceed 35ft in length or 8 ft in width in their fully installed condition (which are to include tip outs and slide outs).

There's an older gentleman who lives there full time in a very old Airstream, so old units are OK I guess. I say oh well as our Thanksgiving trip this year will be at an awesome SC state park in a huge pull through site with a lake view. No leaf blowers at 8:00 am there...
