Selling my RV

Decided to sell my 2004 Dolphin Class A and have a dealer wanting to buy it. I am selling at wholesale (don't want to bother with doing it myself-too busy) and we decided on a decent price. The Dealer is Mike Thompson RV. They will cut me a check within 7 days however they want to take possession of the RV now (including title). Being a large dealership I can't imagine anything shady however I don't want any surprises. Is there anything I need to worry about here? Has anyone else ever done this before??

sure sell it to them at 10% per day compounded. You have as good a chance of getting that deal as them sending you a check.

On the same note, I just violated this cardinal rule for the first time ever. Went jewelry shopping for wife while in HI, 20th anniversary. Found the "right" ring. Didn't fit, couldn't be expanded a size due to its design. The jewelry shop is custom making one and we had to pay up front. 12 weeks out. If that effing thing does not show up in the mail per contract, cheapest option is to fly back there and burn the place down! Haha
Still nervous about this and it's the wife's fault if we get screwed!

Never, ever give up title and not have money in hand. If you sign over the title, you're at his mercy.

If you don't have the title, you have very little recourse if they don't pay or change the terms at the last minute....

Never. You get the RV when I get paid...end of story. I'm not financing someone to help them stay in business.

If they really wanted to do the right thing they would present you with a check when you signed the title over to them. Since they don't want to do that, I would not set foot on their property again.
Too many scams, even by very large companies. Much of it comes down to the ethics of the local facility.

Absolutely NOT. Why would he need the title now? In essence you are driving your RV in his business with the title in hand, no money, and just giving it to him. Even a court would not be able to defend you should a problem arise. There is a simple way to set up an escrow with a bank to hold his money, and your title until an agreed upon date. You are both safe.

Reverse the situation. If you wanted to buy a unit from them, take possession and then tell them you'd pay them in 7 days, what to you think they would do? I'm not familiar with the dealership but based just on this scenario my advice would be RUN.

You'll eventually get a check from them, but not until months have passed and you threaten to sue them. They're one of the sleaziest dealers in California, if not the country. Many will say they had great service with them, but it's typically people buying $20K-$30K trailers where there's not a large chunk of money exchanging hands.

We sold our ViewFinder on consignment through a dealership and gave them our title. We had done business with them in the past and they had earned our trust.

I don't think I would do the same with the dealership you mentioned (for the reasons that the others have mentioned.)

Besides if they are straight-up buying it from you, instead of selling it for you on consignment, why should you have to wait to get paid?
