So all of you 1500 haters

We were driving up 321 earlier running 70 MPH. A 3500 with what looked like a 28' toy hauler passed us. We watched it as it SWAYED, wiggled, wondered around on the road, and nearly went in the ditch.

So you see, It does not matter what you tow with. If not done correctly. It will sway. Having a 2500, or 3500 is NO magic elixir. My 30' TT is dead still behind my F150. I would not be in that 3500 with that TT hooked to it. It was too scary

Yep, my trucks have always done a lot more person transportation duty than anything. Like a sedan with a big open trunk! That is so common, at least here in suburban Utah. Probably 75% of the households on my street have a pickup truck. I can only think of a couple that spend anywhere close to as much time with something in the bed or on the hitch as they do without.

Then there is folks like me, that have employees driving said trucks, daily with 6x12 trailer, full of mowers etc, then the bed gets loaded daily with other junk, like grass clipping, prunings etc. Even then, a pickup bed is too small, a 1 ton or class 4 is many times the better option with a 12' dump bed on it.

As I noted recently, worst than a number of years ago, that trucks are harder to find for contractor style rigs. MOST seem to be car equals, even the 8 lug 25/35 series are carpeted, leather, power this that and the other thing.......I found a few basic 1500's, they wanted as much or more than paid for my 05 LS CC dually dmax I bought in 05! We use a utility trailer for the rare occasion we need to haul something longer than 6 ft. Only happens maybe once or twice a year for some of us!

That would get really expensive for me. A couple of trips on a ferry a week....lets see, first 22' is $18, next 8' to 30 is $36, 31-40 is about $54.......19' of truck, plus 12' of trailer, $54 on way, $108 round trip......OUCH! maybe even DOUBLE OUCH! then add in that I am over 7'6", another 16 or so for over height! Expensive trip! I'll take the std 8' bed over a 6' short bed thank you very much.......

Them short beds must be for non contractor types...........

Yep. I work in an office! The only thing that regularly goes in the back of my truck is my mountain bike slung over the tailgate. Other than that, the occasional bag of fertilizer, groceries from a Costco trip, backpacks for the scout troop, or an armful of firewood for a camping trip. So I never even use the full 5.5' of bed that I have.

Bigger loads like mulch or gravel or our year's worth of firewood go in the 6 x 12 utility trailer that I pull out a few times a year.

Marty, you will note that my short bed is listed in my sig. as "TOY".
Since I no longer need a big truck, that is what I have, a "TOY" truck.
I no longer have horses, so no hay to haul. I don't tow a fifth wheel anymore, so I don't need a 1 ton dually.
That little Dodge 1500 is just right for life as we presently live it. It is big enough to haul "stuff" to the thrift store as we thin things out, and the "quad cab" with the rear seat is just right for the grandkids, and I can get a LOT of groceries and other things in there when we go to Costco.
AND, it tows very nicely behind the motorhome!
It works for us.

I do not have a problem one with folks using a 1/2 ton truck to pull an RV....PROVIDED it is within the ratings of the truck. But you see way too many with way more camper than it should have.

Just weigh the truck, understand the towing terms and see that you are within ratings.

What is so special about the half ton with a std bed in the pic?!?!?! so one can get a 10" bed or there abouts. How kewl would that be!!!!!!!! maaaaaavalous! it would be to get a 10' pickup bed. Not sure how folks deal with them beds shorter than 8'!

Easy just put my tail gate down and now it's 8 feet long.

I know a guy in Northwestern Montana who needed to haul some things that required a 12 foot bed, but all he had was a 1946 Ford long narrow box pickup.
So, he went and found another truck just like it, chopped them apart, welded what he needed back together, and had a 1946 Ford L-O-N-G (12 foot) narrow box pickup.Just goes to show, if you want it bad enough, and have the time, skill, and money, it CAN be done!

X2. No pictures means it did not happen.

So it's okay to take pictures while towing a mammoth down the road with my half a ton? ๐Ÿ™‚

Absolutely not. That's the beauty of my proposed rule. Can't take pictures, so there won't be pictures, so it didn't happen.

Never said for the DRIVER to take pictures while towing a "mammoth."

Taking pictures is the passengers job. If you have no passengers, you also have no-one to verify. :B
