Superglide Hitch / Capture Plate Question

Can you temporarily use the Superglide slider hitch to tow a 5er without the capture plate installed on the pin box? Would only be needed to tow a 5er about 50 miles.

This is what I use on my 16K Superglide.

Slide Stop is placed between turntable ways.

Tightened in and jam nutted.

With Slide Stop installed towing without capture plate can be done.

Sharp turns must be avoided so as not to take out rear window of tow vehicle!

This is the solution..... As long as you STOP the head from sliding, it is perfectly fine to tow like that... I made up something similar to the poster above, but with minor differences.... Now I have a Long Bed and new B&W and don't have to worry about that anymore !

When I bought my Superglide the dealer ordered the wrong plate. He locked the hitch from sliding with what he called "slide locks". I thought he got them from Pullrite. They looked something like this:

He clamped them here:

Then tighted up this bump stop:

When I returned to have the plate installed and reconfigured, he noted he didn't grease the hitch surface and it got scarred up:

I towed about 600 miles with my slide locked as described.
I like C.B's setup better

You are asking for a lot of trouble.

That's the answer I was looking for. You need the capture plate, but why?

Thanks Bird.

I'll come up with a capture plate before I move the rig.

The Capture Plate is attached to the trailer's pin box skid plate. When hooked up into your SuperGlide hitch and ready to tow, it isolates the rotation of your trailer's king pin in the hitch. Movement and rotation is then transferred to the automatic cam action of your SuperGlide hitch

That's the downside of the Superglide. Pinbox specific capture plate.

Didn't realize they had a multi-fit and a universal though, so maybe you could buy a universal plate and it would work.

If you don't have one, who knows how it will turn since the hitch will slide AND it will rotate with king pin.

If your 5er has the same pin box as your son's then yes, you can use his capture plate. Easily removed. But before you try, make sure you have same pin box, or his model will also work for yours.

Well you have had two people say no so I would suggest you listen to them but the capture plate from your son's rig should fit if it is not bolted down.

Good luck I would not want my advice to cause a problem.

You could chain the slider to the front of the mount where it would not be able to move. That would also be a option.
