Thank you the comment about having recliners opposite the TV

In another discussion about floor plans someone mentioned that they prefer being able to have a floor plan that allows them to watch TV sitting in their recliner. It just so happens my one month old 2009 Alumascape 5th/W has a couch bed opposite the TV, but I see no logical reason why I can't just swap the couch location with the recliners.

Moral of the story sometimes when the floor plan is not exact ally to your liking moving things around may be an option, you can't move a bathroom but you can move chairs and tables

And your right. sometimes the simplier solution is pulling a couple vents or light fixtures loose and re-running the TV antenna wire to a new location to mount the TV. Just be sure that you have something solid to mount to. Some install a backer board that they stain to make it look nice and to secure to a bigger surface area, some remove a panel and build up support behind the wall. If it's a bigger TV, you want to support it so the stresses of rolling down the highway are not too much for the mounting hardware. Another option is a mount that you can remove the TV for traveling and rehang once your setup.

I have three TVs. The camper came with a 18 inch bedroom TV and a 23 inch living room TV both of which are mounted on a wall swivel mount. I also have a 38 inch TV that I keep stowed in the closet. If I am going to be in one place for more than 2 days I take out the 38 inch set an place it on a counter top. The 38 incher is only 30 pounds but it is too bulky to mount it premaritally, it is easier to stick it in the closet with some padding to prevent damage while traveling. There is enough room to place the recliners directly in front of the couch and if there are people sitting on the couchI can place the recliners on either side of the couch an I will still almost have a straight on view of the TV.

My previous fiver had a couch and 2 Euro recliners 90 Degrees from the TV. Didn't think much about it until we got our present fiver. There's two Ashley leather recliners directly across from the 42" LED flat screen. Much better layout.

Flat screen televisions can be put on really flexible pivoting/up-down mounting brackets nowadays. Good brackets aren't cheap, but good ones are very rugged and versatile.

Perhaps by using one of these on your TV you could see it from a whole bunch of new places inside your RV such that no floor plan changes would be required.

Had thiis problem in my previous Bigborn. Really didn't need the sofa bed, so I went on line and found a smaller sofa that fit in the rear that could stay in that location....problem solved!

One reason we like our Landmark...sofa is full width and fits in the rear with built in tables on each end.

2006 Jayco Designer.
Didn't take long (for us) to decide we didn't need the pull-out
hide-a-bed couch or the factory recliners - or - the screwed to the floor dinette table and four chairs.

The "slightly" rectangular dinette was replaced with a drop-leaf 36" round table and two chairs located where the couch was.
*If* I want to move it out from the wall - no problem.
With table against the wall, one leaf is normally down - which still leaves plenty of room for two at the table.
BTW - It's not anchored to the floor - It hasn't moved an inch (on it's own) during lots of traveling miles.

The two factory swivel recliners were replaced by two (much more comfortable) LazyBoy recliners - which face the TV at the front of the coach.
They can be turned (if desired) to face the side wall for a drop-down screen for movies via a micro projector.

Left lots more usable floor space, and doesn't interfere with slide operation. (one recliner is on the slide, one not)

*If* a grandkid wants to come along - inflatable mattress.

Whatever works for you - It's your trailer to configure as you wish..:C

BTW if I were to purchase a new trailer again, I would try to order *without* any furniture. (or work something out with the dealer)

I just measured, the couch is 33" Clearance on the curb side slide is 33", Clearance on the road side slide is 34". It may fit but I will have to be very careful each and every time I pull the slide in.

Update I just tried to move the couch, it is a lot heaver than I thought it would be, with my bad back it will not be worth ricking a back injury, but I do have enough room to place the recliners in front of the couch

When we bought our RV we opted for two recliners instead of a sofabed.

I never thought about the recliner location till now and the new 2009 H/R is such a big step up I was so thrilled I never gave the seating in relationship to the TV a second though. This is my 3rd RV in 3 years and it is getting to be expensive trading / upgrading RVs. If I am still breathing 4 or 5 years from now I may look for something else, but right now I am very happy with the larger fridge, washer dryer, central vac, convection micro and a bedroom I can stand up in. There other one did not have any chairs, the little desk in the back is a nice touch.

Here's a logical reason for you. When you close a slide out it will interfere with the couch. But with narrower recliners, the slide wall will pass by with no problem.

On my floorplan the couch faces the TV. The recliners are in the rear (facing forward). Before closing the slide outs, we need to turn the recliners to allow the slide outs to pass by. If we had the couch where the recliners are, the slide outs could not close. Or they would crush the couch.

I have the same set up and I also have to turn the recliners to retract the slide. I am going to move the couch today and test to nsee if I have clearance issues. Even if there are issues I am going to be in NY for another 7 to 14 days (probably 10 days) so if I need to swap back to the original configuration before I move on 5 or 10 minutes of shuffling furniture does not seem like a big deal to me. I'll report back after I move the couch and report if the new couch location causes issues with the slides.

We move things around if we are going to be stationary for a few days. Trying to find a 31 inch couch/sleeper with the storage has proven to be a challenge. Our next 5'er will be a rear sofa model.

I like to keep the bed in the bedroom too. 🙂 Some things just go together naturally.
