Walking (crawling) on the roof

2015 Jayco Jay Flight SLX.

I want to put vent covers over the two roof vents. I haven't put a ladder up on the side yet, but I think I can reach them from one. If not, is the roof strong enough for me to climb up on top to do the job?

I walk on mine all the time, but I only weigh 160# and have size 12 sneakers to distribute the weight.

There are plenty of RV's of all kinds without ladders these days, and the exact model in previous years did. It has to do with economics and usefulness vs. making it an option

Our Dealer told us the ladder wasn't strong enough for us to climb on the roof, of our Fifth Wheel. It was just for looks. So therefore the roof is not strong enough to walk on either. Better let the Dealer Do it. They did with a straight face so it has to be true. Dealer has speshul light weight Folks to do it.

I wouldn't imagine that whether or not you have a ladder, would make a difference in how they built the roof.

The manual page that said OK was in reference to a ladder, so I didn't consider that applicable since I don't have one.

I have plywood available anyway, so I'll use that if I can't reach.

Dealer installation isn't practical since the unit is permanently set up 100 miles away.

The 200 pound limit sounds OK. I'm real close, but if I go up nekkid I think I'll be OK.....LOL.

Thanks for the plywood idea. Dh wants to get up and really inspect our so will have him do this. And bonus we already have a piece.

Listen to all the people telling you it's OK, Then when your foot goes through the roof, ask who is going to help pay for it?

they walk on it to change ac units to reseal ur roof and many other reasons it not a problem

Roofs do vary but.... I am over 300 pounds.. A couple summers ago one of my Air Conditioners the blower died,,, I had to replace the motor.. Well Shawn from Easton Electric Motors (Flint, MI) Found me one (My A/C's are no longer made) and brought it out.. We had to do a bit of modification work (Way less than he expected cause I got good engineering eyes) so we were both up there running around the roof.
Shawn is about the same size I am, Plus his tool box, Plus the motor, Plus.. Well you get the idea.

No problem at all.

Yep, you can walk on the roof. I would say 200lbs max. My old Cherokee Lite i felt the roof was iffy, but it still held me. Now my 07 Cherokee i have no problems with stepping anywhere on the roof.

all JayFlights come with a walk on roof .... all regular JayFlights come with the backer boards that are needed if someone wants to add a ladder
