What is happening with our members?

I've been a member here since 2004, and have learned a lot from this forum, and I still monitor it for new info, and to help newbies when I can.

Lately, I have been astounded by the number of members who have been on here for many years, have many posts, are labeled as SENIOR MEMBERS, and are asking genuine newbie questions.

Had one today where the OP is a "senior member", with almost 500 posts, has been a member since 2015, and his question was how do you fuel a gas truck with a trailer connected?

I'm like, how have you been doing it for the last 10 years? I mean, really? And this is not an isolated issue. Of course we are deluged with newbies due to the Covid rush to RVs, but did our senior members take a break during the pandemic, and while off, forget everything they had already learned? I could understand if the post was a tech problem that just occurred but fueling a truck pulling a trailer?

He didn't simply ask how to fuel a gas truck with a trailer (the answer is obvious, drive to the pump and fill up), but asked for tips on how to get a long trailer into a gas station, which is a fair question for someone that hasn't towed a long trailer before. It's entirely possible to have decades of RV'ing experience without ever having towed anything.

Asking questions *before* you get into the situation is a sign of experience and better than getting into a bad situation, then asking for tips on an expensive repair afterwards.

I agree! I never paid attention to the 5th wheel forum, until I bought one. Same for Truck campers. While some topics are universal to RVing - each "breed" of RV comes with unique issues.

Maybe he just gets great gas mileage.

I was in computer Tech Support before I retired. I am always amazed at the number of questions that are accompanied by very little information !

"XYZ" won't turn on ? What could it be ?"

Such a vague question could have several dozen answers !

Maybe they're MH owners. I'm a towable RV owner and have been on here for many years but if I switched to a MH I'm sure I'd have a dumb (To MH owners) question once in a while.

Larry, everything changes.....I towed a TT with a2500 Suburban for many years. Then sold both and bought a diesel truck. First diesel truck and I had some questions. Then we got a truck camper, never had one of those before and had lots of questions. Then we sold that and got a 5er, never towed one before and had questions.

Maybe the guy asking about gassing his truck with a trailer attached had a motorhome for many years...so not new to the forum but new to towing.

Lots to know and nothing wrong with asking questions.

Well, he has a point really....but maybe he left off he has a diesel or other something..who knows. I pull my 37 ft. trailer with my 2500 gasser and it is quite the challenge to find a gas station I can fit into. 57 ft long when connected and stations today are not set up for vehicles pulling longer trailers, even the newly built ones. How can a company ignore putting in at least ONE RV friendly GAS lane. I have become pretty good at sizing up a station I can fit in. The biggest problem I encounter is others do not give an RVer the room they need to maneuver and will park you in so you have to wait on them to get done and move.

You have to hold them by the hand nowadays. Being a kinder gentler world can be beyond comprehension, makes you wonder how they get dressed in the morning.
