What is the best weight distribution hitch?

Money aside, what is the best anti-sway weight distribution hitch for a travel trailer with a 7500 lb GVWR?

I know that there are lots of WDHs out there in all price ranges and they all claim to be the best, so its very confusing. I was wondering what you all think is the best and why. Is it worth spending $3000 for hitch?

An accident waiting to happen, huh? Bull. Thanks for your OPINION.

To the OP, I am very pleased with the performance and ease of use of my Reece Dual Cam for 10 years. One caveat, it must be set up properly, and many are not. If John Barca chimes in, I'm sure he will agree. He helped me tremdously. My trailer is 34', 8000 lbs, and 1100 lb TW.

IMHO, an accident.t waiting to happen. Is someone that does not take the time me to figure out if the trailer is properly setup. IE us the for aft and side to side weight distribution correct. If not, you have a trailer that wants to sway!
If tire pressure on one side is say 20+ psi lower, again, you have a situation that can cause sway.
Is the trailer level to slightly nose down hooked up ready to go? If nose up, a potential to sway!
Are tires the same size, construction etc? If not, a potential for sway
Need i go on?
Good. If your trailer sways with.no bars of a.y sort, figure out why the EFF the trailer sways, fix cause, tow trailer....THEN add appropriate AS system to tow a ball/pintle hitch trailer.
Not sure how ma.my miles, over 100k probably, towing.g trailers of different sizes with no bars. The ONLY times I've had issues, is when one of the above was the cause of the sway. Fixed issue, easy relaxing towing.
This is not to say towing my TT was not.more relaxing with just a WD system, more relaxing yet with a dual cam....
My point, setup correctly is the key! If you.use a Hensley to stop sway, which it will, YOU.my friend, are an accident waiting to happen!

My 02, and then some on subject!

all others are an accident waiting to happen. that is a statement written by a company man. I've used the type with the chain and now I'm using the four point system. I like the four point system much better then the ones with the chains. my personal opinion. an accident waiting to happen is some towing with out a WDH.

Where do you RV/camp?

I sometimes park the trailer in locations that place it and the tow vehicle at extremely different angles/elevations, which is fine with my Equal-I-zer. I don't know if those high dollar hitches can accommodate those scenarios.

If I was towing heavy/long with a short wheelbase vehicle, I might consider the HA or PP hitch. Realistically, one should try to balance their trailer and tow vehicle to prevent sway in the first place, then select a hitch. JMHO

We are new to RVing and don't have the exact tow vehicle picked out yet. We are considering a new 2019 Ram 1500 or 1500 GMC, but we haven't 100% ruled out a 2500. I'd prefer a 3/4 ton but I'd have to register it as commercial, which means i can't drive on any Parkways even when not towing and it won't fit in the garage. These new 1500s seem to have much improved towing specs and can easily handle a 7500 lb trailer provided I get a good wdh.

Iโ€™ve had both a Hensley and a Pullrite. Both top notch but Iโ€™d give the Pullrite the prize for towing performance. The bad news is that the Pullrite install is a MAJOR pain. Thatโ€™s why I switched to a Hensley for my second TT.

There is a certain amount of inherent sway when the pivot point is several feet behind the axle. The Hensley controls that sway. The Pullrite moves the pivot point so as to eliminate sway entirely.

Another Hensley or Pro-Pride vote. I used a basic wd hitch to start, then upgraded to an Equil-i-zer and finally a Hensley. Hensley was hands down better than the others. I've bought 3 over the years just because they were deals, I still use the original one. Bought the first one slightly used for $1200. Second one was $300 and the third $150. Cleaned the last 2 up and flipped them for $1k each.

The only problem I have had with my Hensley Arrow is that twice I have had a flat tire on my TT and did not know it driving at about 70 MPH until a passing car flagged me down. One time the good tire was rubbing on the underside of the wheel well and almost started a fire.

I now have tire pressure monitors on all wheels.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

I have used the Reese dual cam system for over 11 years and it works very well. Never had any issues. Even with the 34' trailer I have now it is very stable. Just like others have said they all need to be fine tuned and setup properly.

While I agree that the Hensley and Pro Pride are the best available and attack the trailer's stability in a different way than most others, I can not agree that all the others are accidents waiting to happen, that is a ridiculous statement in my opinion.
I use a Hensley Arrow with the 1400lb spring bars, the largest it will take to pull my 41' 11,300lb TT with a 137" wheelbase Excursion, makes for a very well behaved combo. There are plenty of used HAs and PPs on the market, I paid $650 for mine and replaced 2 sets of bearings and gave it a fresh coat of paint (it needs a freshen up again now). 35K+ towing miles and 8+ years later it works exactly as advertised.

Agreed completely. The equalizer or dual cam when set up properly are extremely good hitches as well. And will do everything you expect from a good WD/sway control setup.

Any of these 4 choices will be way more than adequate and do well.

IMHO it's a matter of budget and also looking at each system's advantages and disadvantages. Compare setup procedure and hooking up and unhooking. Pick which best fits your needs.

This would be my answer also.

But this is not correct. The Hensley is the best, but there are many many very good hitch systems out there, and on a 7500# trailer you're well within the range of an Equalizer or Dual cam setup.

of course, the next question has to be... what are you towing it with?

Hensley Arrow and Propride are certainly functionally unlike any of the others, they put the pivot point actually ahead of the tv rear axle. They have other issues, but for sway control they are unequalled, imho.

Yes, Hensley and ProPride are excellent but>>>
Baloney.....
Now that we have that out of the way, there are a number of excellent choices for a 7500 lb trailer. Look at:

Equal-i-zer
Reece Dual Cam
Blue Ox SwayPro

All would work well for you at a fraction of the cost..
Note: they all must be set up properly and dialed in.
