What kind of camper are you?

Do you go to the same campgrounds most of the time, or do you try someplace new as much as possible?

Myself, living in a fantastic area for camping, and with both of us having jobs where we get 3 day weekends most weeks we try and hit a different campground every trip. They claim there are approximately 7000 developed campgrounds in the state. If you rule out tent only, boat access only, too small for our TT, no dogs allowed, or commercial RV parks in cities which we rarely utilize you still end up with well over 1000 campgrounds that are probably worth a visit. How are we ever going to hit them all, even if we stay within the state, which of course we don't.

It would be interesting to see how others like to camp. Do you like to explore, or do you prefer the comfort of what you know? Do you like the RV park sort of setup, or do you prefer boondocking/forest service sorts of areas where you get away from it all?

To start it out, we much prefer scenic areas, avoiding crowds as much as possible. As mentioned, we try to go someplace different every time out. The areas we seek out rarely have hookups, and are often in campgrounds with less than a dozen other campers, more often than not scattered around for privacy. This is what we love, but find that when heading out with our camping friends, most of them seem to seek the RV park, built up sorts of areas so we hit those sorts of places about a 3rd of the time.

What are your preferences?

2016 Heartland Bighorn 3270RS, 1kw solar with Trimetric and dual SC2030, 600 watt and 2k inverters.

Repeat visitors to lake park (govt facility) within 40 minutes of home.

Tournament travelers - camping as near as possible to teen sport commitments.

We tend not to travel more than 1.5 hours one way. We live in the country so camp less to "get away" and more to "get to."

We seem to wind up in the same places. We fish and we like certain lakes, we 4wheel and we like the mountains. We both work full time so we go close by. For now.
After DH retires, we hope to make longer trips and more often. I will still be working but my vacation time won't have to match his - especially since a large percentage of his is now being blocked for hunting.

Camping is what you do with your RV, IMHO. I'm not RV'ing when I'm sitting at my campfire. IMHO...

I'm a camper. I like to go somewhere I like then stay put for a while. I still work full time so that probably makes a difference. If I were retired, I would take more touring type trips.

Me too. I didn't get a motorhome to just sit in the woods at a campground. If we stay in one place more than one day, I find a campground. I like to travel and do things. When ever I can, I stay at a Cracker Barrel. Get up and have breakfast and on with the Journey. .:B

We try to avoid having to stay at RV Parks. For us, the RV Parks are just too crowded, and the sites are too close together.

We prefer dry camping at NFS, COE, and Fed Bureau of Relamation CGs.

This is the type of CG we prefer:

Not an RV Park like this. Our unit is on the right:

Do you steal a farmers chicken and camp by a steam at night.

At it again, eh, Supercharged? :B

We're gypsy types, too though we've never (successfully) swiped a chicken. Darn things are faster than we are...

My husband spent a night in jail down in Mississippi years ago after he and his teenage camping buddies "found" some local farmer's pig, though. Does that count?

We mix it up. We have about six campgrounds within 60 miles or so that make great weekend destinations, and one state campground that's only 15 miles from home. However, it has no cell service, so it's great for getting away.

For week-long trips, we go further, and have only been to the same place twice. This past week we were back in beautiful Williamsburg, Virginia. We took someone else camping for the first time - our six-year-old granddaughter. Goodness, that was NOT restful. We forgot how much attention little ones need. We will not take a grandchild again until they're a lot more independent.

We are planning a family reunion camping trip this summer - some are staying in tents, some in cabins and us in our MH.

We will stay in places where you carry your water in and dump on the way out, but we need electrical hookups, unless we can run our generator - DW uses a CPAP to sleep.

It's great that we have so many ways to camp and so many campgrounds to visit. I've camped in every state but Hawaii, and every Canadian province, and I've loved each and every one.

Happy camping,

We have a few campground that we mainly use. Furthest is about an hour from the house. Most of our trips are Friday after work and home on Sunday. Some longer weekends throughout the year. We have only traveled further than an hour 5-6 times in 15 years. Most of the time we are camping at the lake, on the other side of the town we live in.

I guess we've been mostly "sightseers", so tend to stay in a new place each night?
