Which Hitch

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500. I just bought a TT. Passport 23RB. dry weight;4730, tongue wt; 525. Length 26โ€™.

I was sold an Equalizer E4. Friends strongly recommend Reese Dual Cam.

Iโ€™m a new RVโ€™er and have some physical problems.

Hereโ€™s my question;
1) which would have the best combo of โ€œease of useโ€ and WD/Sway control?

2) Iโ€™m confused about the E4. Does it actually have a โ€œcamโ€ as well.

As mentioned, both are great hitch systems!

Probably one area the Reese has a slight advantage over the Equal-I-Zer is the adjustment of the head. It allows a little more fine tuning when trying to adjust for proper weight transfer. Maybe nit picking a little though.

Both are good hitches and both work on different principles. I've got The Equlizer 4pt setup and it works great. It does not use a cam light the Reese. Both have built in sway control and both have a big following.

The EQ like most WDHs can be failry easy to hook up using the following procedure:

Lower tongue onto ball just enough to latch
Latch tongue on ball
Raise tongue/lower jack
Install WD bars
Lower tongue/raise jack

And I will add, Any bolts associated with the Equal-i-zer hitch do not work loose when properly torqued to the manufacturers specifications.

I have been happy with my Equal-i-zer hitch going on 9 years. I have had not any experience with a Reese Dual Cam, but I hear owners are well satisfied with them too.

"Why do people want to complicate things? You have a fine hitch for your application use it! The cheapest hitch on the market is perfectly safe and more than adequate, unless you like spending money needlessly you are good!"

Obviously spoken by someone who has never experienced a serious trailer sway event- as I have with a cheap hitch. All hitches are not "adequate", and saying they are is extremely bad advice.

Have used both but like the equilizer better much easier to set up and does the job just fine for your TT size.

After towing with the Equalizer I definately would get the Reese Dual Cam. To answer your question the Equalizer does not have a cam, and any sway feature against sway also works against return from sway. The hitch has too many little parts, too many bolts that loosen and need to be retightend after each trip, and the spring bars are more bars and less spring. Dealers throw in the Equalizer hitch to make a sale.

Either hitch would work fine for the towing combination you have. If you still want to get the dual cam hitch then go for it, but I doubt you will see much improvement over the equalizer hitch you already have. Your truck and TT are a good match and any decent WD/SC hitch will provide a comfortable towing experience. Enjoy your new Passport!!!

I have had no experience with the Equalizer hitch. I tried a couple of other brands until I found the Reese Dual Cam hitch. I used the Reese for 15 years and had great experiences, easy to hook up and use. The greatest feature for me was the control and stability when traveling down the road. Passing big 18 wheelers comming at you was no longer a white knuckle hang on to the steering wheel experience.
The Reese Dual Cam really proved its control and stability when a car had a blow out when he was passing the trailer and his car rammed right into my rear wheels on my truck. My trailer travel from the right hand land clear over to the outer edge of the left hand lane. The trailer made a big S shaped turn but then came right back into the right lane with no damage. I just keep my hands firm on the steering wheel and allowed the Reese Dual Cam to straighten the trailer and truck up. I pulled over and stopped. The only damage was my rear fender and running board. A CHP happened to be traveling behind and saw the whole incident. :):) No damage to the trailer or the hitch and was able to continue on in to Ariz. The Dual Reese Cam provided me almost the same degree of stability features as my new 5th wheel Reese hitch and 5th. wheel. Made a believer out of me:)

I am not familiar with Equal-I-Zer's new nomenclature, but I can tell you from personal experience that you have the best hitch on the market. I have used them for the better part of 40 years pulling TTs and would not consider purchasing anything else. We decided to go with a MH this time just to try something different. If we ever go back to a TT we will get an Equal-I-Zer hitch for it.
